I recently built a dual exhaust system that is similar to the setup used by mw66nova. The important point is that the mufflers are hung such that they are underneath where the rear seat buckets would be. I've noticed that after a 5 mile drive or so, the metal in the interior (underneath the carpet) is hot to the touch.
I'm wondering how flammable the stock carpet considering that it's getting hot in that area?
I've pulled the carpet away from the floor pans to reduce the risk (if there is any) of the carpet getting hot.
Any suggestions for reducing the heat radiated into this area? Perhaps wrap the mufflers? High temp header paint on mufflers or the underside of the car?
Thanks!

Re: Dual exhaust heat, flamability of stock carpet
Rivet in a piece of sheet metal to act as a heat shield, or wrap the mufflers, either way that should be good enough to keep the floor pan from getting so hot.
I don't think that it will get hot enough to cause the carpet to even start smoking, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
