Anyone on this forum using the Hawks Stainless Longtube headers with matching y-pipe on their 3rd gen? How do you like them and how was the install? I'm contemplating getting a set to eliminate the really curvy, restrictive y-pipe and shorty headers. Thanks..

Hard to believe that no one here is using those headers, they look like really nice pieces and I like the way they make the y-pipe to straighten out the exhaust and put the small bend to clear the Spohn trans cross member. I was hoping to find someone is using them and could let me know how the fittment and clearances are.
i think there is 2 people on here using them, but that's it Ive been looking for as much info on them as possible too, but I think their just to expensive for most people
I will agree, that they are expensive but when you really look at the cost of any longtube that has been ceramic coated and then have a y-pipe made to connect it all, you will nearly 700-800 dollars in them. I just think that they look like a really well made set of headers and by what I can see in the photos they provide on a car, don't hang down real low like most longtubes I have seen on our cars. The way I see it, I already have a small fortune just in the building of motor and I don't like choking it down the small y-pipe with all the bends to get it to my 3" exhuast. I feel the motor will really like the free breathing these would give.
I agree I am willing to shell out the money, but I know one of the guys said he had a little fitment problem if. I'm gonna spend the money I want them to fit without having to spend extra in possibly having to modify them....I hope more people buy, and install for some more feedback
Ihave a set of hawks long tubes on my 88 formula, I do not regret putting them on a bit, i had edelbrock shorties with their y-pipe and 2 1/2" flowmaster exhaust installed the long tubes with a 3 1/2" muflex system picked up 5 tenths in the 1/4 mile right away. the install was no problem even with the large starter. if you have any question feel free to ask.
I have a few questions what motor mounts are you using, how was fitment by oil filter, and frame rails, and how about the y-pipe? any pics? any answers would greatly be appreciated
I am running the stock motor mounts, there were no issues clearing the stock oil filter configuration with the oil cooler lines, the collectors set in between the rails nicely, had to do a little fine tuning on the trans crossmember nothing major, otherwise everything fit really nice. don't have any pictures to send fits like the pictures on hawks web site.
From what I can see and according to HAWKS they work well with automatic trans cars. But, for any one reading this with a manual trans car, I bought a set for a Camaro with the T-56 upgrade. I used SPOHN's TQ arm and trans mount. The collector area absolutely would not clear the trans linkage and the "Y" pipe will not clear the SPOHN combination trans/torque arm mount. In all fairness HAWK's told me this up front and said the collector could be modified to clear the original T-5 linkage. After a trial fit I determined it was more than I wanted to deal with. After all, the only reason to buy stainless steel is for how great they look. I planned to have them polished, cutting them up was never an option. I found the craftsmanship to be first rate and I believe they are made for HAWKS by "Stainless Works" and they produce very nice stainless exhaust pieces among other things. Having said that, I will confess that I regret sending them back. I have since hatched a plan to eliminate the original T-5 linkage and go with a hydraulic throw out bearing and possibly a McLeod bellhousing. The only thing holding me up is I plan to lower the car and work on handling first.
Iv got the hawks headers and i really like them and they fit great. I didnt buy their y-pipe though, i just made my own. I had the 2.5 in collectors but after a few months i cut of the 2.5 in part and tig welded on a 3in. collector. I just finished making a 3in into 4in y-pipe for my car. Ill post a link once i get a thread made.

I would really like to see some pics, since what you are doing is what I want to do. I like the way they look on Hawks web site pics they have posted for these headers. Let me know when you do post some pics, thanks to all who have responded to my question.
