Need Opinions On This...

So its time to do my exhaust for my IROC, right now its stock manifolds/y-pipe into a 3 inch pipe where the cat used to be into a 2 3/4 intermediate pipe goin to a flowmaster and besides idle I hate how it sounds. I'm doing headers and y in the next coming weeks and I need to decide on exhaust, I was thinking of doing 3" off the y into a 5x8x14 magnaflow single in/out where the cat used to be and a 3" pipe off that either to a turn down before the axle or dumped out infront of the pass side wheel. I really want to get away from the krackle truck sound of our exhausts, I've listened to MANY different cat backs and they all have the same 3rd gen exhaust sound. Anyone have a set up similar?

So I've been told, I'm just worried about ground clearance if I dump it out the side. The rear subframe is right in the way.
