I have a 350 (soon to be a vortec 350 if that changes things) into shorty headers into Y-pipe into a "cat" (cleaned out) then stock all the way back I am debating on flowmaster or Cherry bomb.
I want a good deep throaty muscle car sound, don't mind being loud, but I still like my tunes, and not "tinny"
i had the flowmaster on one of my 3rd gens. it sounded ok. on my 84 im gonna run full length headers with 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 y pipe into 3in out the back with no muffler. i hope it sounds good!
I have a flowmaster on my 85 and I have a 350 with headers, y pipe, and no cat. I love the sound quality, very throaty if that's what your looking for. Defininetly turns those heads.
I have a 88 Trans Am with a 350, SLP shorty headers, cat configured the same as you, and a Hooker catback. I LOVED the way that sounds. Much more tuned then the Flowmaster I have on my 91 GTA.

I loved my Flowmaster 40-series on my old 3rd gens (no video/audio clips though) and I ove my Magnaflow bullet muffler (on my GTA now) Click here for videos in my Photobucket
I have dual cats(for now) with a borla, pretty sweet.Has three adaptor plates with differnt size holes on each plate so you can"tune" the sound.
its neat, but I always run mine wide open, and its a stainless sytem
I installed the DynoMax cat back system on my 5.7 91 z28 about a year ago and I am very happy with it. Edelbrock TES headers, and no cats with a little modification. The car sounds strong at idle and low RPM's, but, when you accelerate, people know that you are coming. Great sound, many envious compliments, yet at cruising speeds you can listen to your sound system without being overpowered by exhaust sound. My 2 cents. Randy
