I have an 89 v6 firebird, with a catback (no muffler) I am wondering if there is an exhaust system out there that is louder than a cat back,or maybe just some way of making it louder than it already is?
i ran mine with just headers and pipes. no muffler or cat.
it was LOUD!!! but too loud for me so i put a flowmaster on it. now i want to redo it all with gmmg mufflers

Thanks.
So you want noise with a V6, good luck. Make a recording of a good sounding V8 and play it real loud on your big sound system with the windows open. That should fool everyone.

Seriously though I have full length headers into glasspacks and it isn't very loud. I ran it without the glasspacks for a quick jaunt (don't ask) and it still didn't seem that bad. These motors are just quiet. Of course my hearing's faded a bit over the years so it could be worse than I think.
Having the cat on or off shouldn't make much of a difference of how loud it will be, straight pipe from cat back, and your sound will come from the rear end as opposed too it coming from underneath the car.
IMO, have a buddy drive your car for you, as you stand and listen to it from the outside. What you hear from the inside of the car and outside is night and day!
To be honest, it does sound like a V8! But who's V8 is it???? That Camaro your suggesting is a V6, yet he's surrounded by sport/muscle cars and only that engine rumble can be heard on the video!?!? WTF. There's a Mustang beside him that most likely has a V8 in it that can barely be heard! I've got buddy's with V8 Rustangs, as a CAR guy, i do think they sound really good and LOAD!!!
loud? well, i hate to sound faster than im actually going, nothing like a good laugh when you see a car that sounds like its doing 150mph but is still obeying the speed limit....

For real, the V6's sound terrible. There's absolutely no way anyone with any common sense is going to think any of the clips in this thread are V8's. The best plan with a V6 is to leave the exhaust alone. At least then it doesn't have the rasp from 3500rpm - redline. I can see making changes to increase performance, but just doing it to make it loud is going to end up sounding ridiculous. Save the rest of us from the guilt by association, and get the quietest muffler you can find.
the rasp is usually caused by the exhaust manifolds. Headers fixes that.
FWIW, i never wanted any of my 60v6's to sound like an 8. If i wanted a cammed 8 i'd build another one.
I agree with Drew though, the 60v6 is damn loud and if you aren't at the track it should be kept quiet. Espicially if it's stock. If you want better performance it's fairly easy to run a good 2.5" system and use a Y pipe to a pair of Walker quiet-flows. They'll flow plenty for a stock engine.
IROCK ZZ, thanks. I can't wait to see how that engine does in a 3rd gen.
