4th Gen Exhaust
Curious if a 4th gen aftermarket exhaust will fit on a thirdgen. Also why alot of the categories are split up for 93-97 then 98-02.

Re: 4th Gen Exhaust
The flowmaster on my 89 vert came off an LT1 Car.From what Ive heard you can use a 93-96 exhaust on a third gen.Just have to change the hangers on the exhaust.Shouldnt be a problem for any muffler shop to do

Re: 4th Gen Exhaust
A 93-97 4th gen cat-back will fit on a thirdgen. However, the y-pipe design is different on 4th gens. 4th gen exhuasts combine after the trans. But thirdgen y-pipes have the driver side come down between the engine and trans to the pass. side.
To use a 4th gen cat-back on a thirdgen one will need a few feet from the thirdgen cat-back as the 4th gen I-Pipe is a bit short, and missing the slight bend towards the cat-converter.
I have a SLP 2otL from a 4th gen on my GTA. I had to have an exhaust shop bend a pipe to make it fit. Please ignore the dirty underside of my car, it had a RMS leak. I have have some rust to clean up.
This was from my Jury rigged setup to get it to the exhaust shop and have it fixed right. You can clearly see the bit of 3" semi-flex pipe I used between the cut-out and the I-Pipe. It looks MUCH better now and the exhaust is tucked up much higher.

Re: 4th Gen Exhaust
LT1 cat backs fit better than LS1 cat backs, but the LS1 cat back can fit too. I know, because I have one.
Previous owner had it installed at a shop, so I dunno what had to be done to make it fit. I do know though, that they charged him more to mod it to fit, than he he even paid for it. But I'm pretty sure they ripped him off too. I've heard it is different, but not to the extent to justify what they charged him.

Re: 4th Gen Exhaust
Ive got a LS1 LM1 catback on my bird. The hangar locations change but fitment is the same. It makes sense because the 4th gen rear suspension/chassis design was taken directly from 3rd gens
Tip placement may need to change though
