See alot of threads of but most seem to be 1 brand against flowmaster...

I am buying a catback at anytime now for my project...

I already have Hooker 2055 Headers and Y pipe, and probably just gonna get a walker 3" cat.

When I woke up this morning I thought I was going to buy a flowmaster cat back. But the more I read and more I thought about it I am moving away from the flowmaster because alothough I want the car to be loud and sound good. My car is a vert and i dont want it to be totally overbearing to where I cant hold a conversation with someone.

So iv narrowed it down to either the magnaflow or the hooker.

Anyone know the pros and cons of the 2? Iv listened to them on youtube but its hard to tell...

Also how will my crane 2032 cam effect on sound of the exhaust?

No comparison, Magnaflow for sure. I have used both. While the Hooker sounds good it will not hold up as well as the Magnaflow. With our winters the Hooker did not even last 2 years before the outside of every major bend rusted throught and the input to the muffler rusted through. You will not have that problem with the Magnaflow being stainless. The Magnaflow is relatively quiet for cruising but will let you know its there at WOT.

Having heard Hooker vs Magnaflow on an LT1 I prefer the Hooker exhaust. Sounds so much better to me. But then again, its all up to your ears.

Hooker owner here and it sounds better than I thought, I like the Magnaflow too as well. Its all your preference to be honest.

Also for those saying about Hookers not lasting, take some advice. You can prevent it from rusting out. Even then replacements are not that expensive.

here is the thing im torn with: why build a race car if you dont want it to sound like one?

that would be my argument for flowmaster but at the same time I see how that could get annoying.

It's not that Flowmaster is loud. I don't mind loud. It's the drone and cackle that gets old. My Magnaflow is just as loud at WOT as the Flowmaster. But it sounds deeper at idle, doesn't drone under cruising, doesn't cackle under decel, and is known to be a better flowing system. I can also tell you the piping being stainless weighs less and will last much longer. I have owned both and speak from direct experience with the two systems. I am much happier with the Magnaflow systems all around. They even have better adjustment and fit. You can set the tips height where the Blowmasters where welded to the can and hung to low. Tangibly all around better quality.

The hooker system is more of a system designed with max flow in mind and designed to meet track db requirements and that's about it. It's a much louder system than the Magnaflow. They sound bad *** behind a cam'd car imo but they don't last.

The Hooker Aerochamber exhaust isn't louder at all, not by a human ear.

The Hooker Max Flow yes.

hooker if your not in a rust state, although you can prevent it, magnaflow is quality hands down.. ive had both, but ive ran hooker aero chambers on my L98, LT1, and LS1 car(wasnt raspy like most LS cars).. flowmaster is nice, but long drive times, the drone sucks..

congrats! i have it on my 92z and can post up some video clips of how mine sounds running it hard during a autox event with the magnaflow catback and 3in cat and a flowmaster setup with no cat if interested. the flowmaster imo got on my nerves i didnt mind the idle sound but was raspy and had a tinny sound.

Magnaflow 3inch stainless catback,wouldn't catch myself with any other brand.

although my car isn't stock it sounds amazing.

I've had a Hooker catback on my car for 6 years so far, and I've heard them all. I'll stick with Hooker!!
Quiet while cruising, and raises h*ll when you tromp on it!

I've had the same pair of Hookers on 3 different vehicles, currently on my '03 Avalanche. They are around 6 or 7 years old and have been through 6 rough Iowa winters and still are rust free (except for surface rust on the welds). My truck sees it all too, i'm not easy on it.

I just installed my Hooker headers, hooker y pipe. Cat-delete pipe, and magnaflow cat-back. I started the car with it all hooked up besides the muffler, it was very loud. Put the magnaflow muffler on and am suprised how much that quieted the car down. It sounds great though. Can't wait to drive it.

The sign of a good muffler is a significant reduction in noise without reducing flow.

Hooker and Magnaflow are BOTH good at that. From there on its your preference for how you want your noise shaped. For me the Magnaflow is just too flat. As the rev's clime the pitch doesn't climb it remains a steady blat.

I'll eventually be replacing my SLP 2otL muffler for a hooker aerochamber 1 in 2 out non-crossflow muffler so I can retain my 2otL looks but get the Aerochamber sound.

I revved the car in the garage a little bit, and it had a pretty nice tone to it.
