Re: Rear wheel spats for special appearance package
wow those are really cool. Reminiscent of Second Gen birds. If you ever do find some and put them on your car post pics. I dont think ive ever seen any like those before.
Re: Rear wheel spats for special appearance package
TTT. Don't need to be in perfect shape, i plan on making a mold so imperfections can be dismiss-able. Next option is to make custom...
If i go that far to recreate the package i'm going to also create the spoiler. Also planning on a custom 5" spoiler for the firebirds similar to what is offered to camaros. Getting time next summer will prove how far i get...
THE SECOND-GEN TRANS AM FIREBIRD PARTS SHOULD FIT THE BODY OF THE THIRD-GEN TRANS AM FIREBIRD BODY'S THE SPOILER & THE GROUND EFFECTS FOR THE GROUND EFFECTS YOU ARE LOOKING FOR!
Re: Rear wheel spats for special appearance package
I was curious of that exact thing. I have tried to do the research here and came up with absolutely nothing. I've found out that there are about 3 different sets according to year break ups. Outside of that, i didn't know of that many third gen oriented sites of this size that i could search for this type of thing. Another issue is that i have absolutely no experience with 2nd gens, with no direct access to any of thier parts. If by any chance, anyone is out there with a second gen set of wheel spats, if you wouldn't mind applying these spats to a third gen, even if it's holding it on the car while someone takes a few pictures of the front and back of it, i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks jamie!
Re: Rear wheel spats for special appearance package
I'll try to get some pics tomorrow but I have my doubts that a 2nd-gen wheel flare will fit a 3rd-gen. The body lines and dimensions between the two are noticably different.
There is no way the 3-peice 2nd-gen rear spoiler is going to fit. Its not even close to the one used with the '88 Special Appearance Package.

5" spoiler would be sweet, I've also wanted one since I saw it for Camaros at Hawks. Too bad it doesn't fit Firebirds. If you ever do this project, or make custom I'd really be interested. Keep us updated!
Re: Rear wheel spats for special appearance package
I had my curiositites on the second gen pieces, and being that i've never been close enough to examine the two generations next to eachother, i couldn't come to my own conclusions. I would greatly appreciate if you could compare the spats on the 3rd gen for me. If you have them, see if the front would work or if the rear would work as far as the wheel well shape. I'm not worried about the 3 piece setup, i can modify that into my 3 piece.
Also i know the 2nd gen spoiler wouldn't fit without probably a lot of modifications.
1982TA, i will be trying the 5" spoiler for firebirds this summer. I'm trying to figure it out in my head first before i start. I'm thinking about doing it flat up to be very similar to the 2nd gens.

I wont be any help as far as comparing 2nd gen spats to that of the thirdgen. I don't know how good your are at fiberglassing, but I'm almost positive the 2nd gens would be larger than the thirdgens. Any chance you could get a second gen set and try to scale it down? I've seen people make custom fender flares and stuff with foam and then fiberglass it to make a mold.
Re: Rear wheel spats for special appearance package
That was my first plan, using some styrofoam and recreate them. But to make them perfectly symmetrical would be difficult and time consuming. But in the same sentence, thats why i would like to get pictures of 2nd gen spats on a 3rd gen so i can see how much of a job i would have ahead of me scaling those down, or up as it may be, compared to creating my own.
Re: Rear wheel spats for special appearance package
I will be recreating that spoiler, as well as a 5" variation comparable to a mixture of the 5" hawks camaro spoiler, and a 2nd generation trans am spoiler. Unfortunetaly this will have to wait until summer time when i have more time to screw around with molds and fiberglass actually curing.
I have private messaged someone on the boards that has the complete package, and asked them for many photos of the parts for my recreation project. Hopefully they will respond, otherwise, anyone that has these parts, i'm looking for complete pictures on and possibly off the car at all angles, or possibly these parts, preferably in a condition that is usable. Thanks all that are interested!!
Re: Rear wheel spats for special appearance package
I'll wait however long it takes! those are the nicest spoilers iv seen for a thirdgen firebird! hope they send you the stuff if possible could ya pm me details once your ready?
Re: Rear wheel spats for special appearance package
i will contact you once the project commences. This will most likely take place next summer, as i've got to finish my firebird project first.
Anyone that might be interested in this spoiler PM me, and i will make a list. I don't have projected costs as of yet, and i don't have the estimated time it will take yet either. It will just be a general interest list, and then once i get one done, and can project costs and labor, i can come up with a price. I want to make sure that the end product will be worth it, and look as good as it should, and work out some of the bugs that i've already thought of in my head. Thanks for the support to all those who have showed it, and to all those offering help, i really appreciate it.
Re: Rear wheel spats for special appearance package
Are you still interested? I found some spats bolted to an 84 firebird at the junkyard yesterday, Im unsure whether or not they are stock from another year, aftermarket, off of a different car or what, but they fit nice.
