1986 Trans Am, 1985 Trans Am
I was REALLY hoping it wouldn't come to this, but my wife wants the yard and garage cleaned out before I buy any more toys, and I've decided to get a 2nd gen to work on. So the third gens have to go!

The 86 runs, still needs a few little things to get it up to tip top shape. The interior is O.K., it has a good dash pad, no cracks or dings, a VERY nice set of midnight blue seats from a Camaro, and the 140 speedo cluster. Some interior parts are from a GTA, the steering wheel, console, and dash bag. It also has the bag for the T-tops.
Engine is a 305 TPI, auto trans. Runs O.K., still stalls when cold, and hesitates a bit off the line. I know it has an exhaust leak at the manifold/pipe joint, one vacuum leak I'm trying to trace down, and the timing is way off. Other than that, no worries.

The body is VERY clean, the underbody is smooth and rust free. It does have one small rust spot on the drivers side shock pillar, where it looks like someone drilled a hole for something, and its rusted around the edges. Easy fix in a very accesible spot. Floorpans, trunk, and wheel wells are COMPLETELY free of rot.

Some added goodies are the Moroso valve covers and Edelbrock short tube headers (need to be installed). Has gold GTA rims on it with crap tires, but it will come with a set of excellent tires on normal T/A rims. These tires still have some of the threads hanging off them, theyre that new. It also has an aftermarket fiberglass hood on it, looks pretty good. It also has a 3 inch Flowmaster exhaust on it, sounds SWEET.

It will need a new windshield, the old one is completely spiderwebbed.

I'd like to get $800 out of this one. If you want, I'll also throw in the 5 speed setup (complete setup) out of my 87 I was going to put in it.

The second car is an 85, this one needs more work in the body department, less in the engine compartment. Carbureted 305 runs EXCELLENT. Auto trans. Interior is black and silver two tone, in really good shape. One burn on the passenger seat, other than that, solid. Body on this one is also nearly rust free, florpans, trunk, wheel wells are spotless. I shopped a lot of vehicles to find these two, they are clean. Now, for the bad.

This car hit a tree at some point. The front radiator support/headlight area is completely twisted and mangled. Crying shame on a car this clean. I do have the front frame/support structure from my 87 that could be welded in to bring the car back to straight. It would need a new hood, I have all of the other parts to complete the repair. It looks a little different than the pics now, I replaced the front end so its Maroon now, better shape.

I've put alot of parts and time into this one, I'd like to get $500 out of it, Even with the front end damage, I think this one is worth it.

I have TONS of pics, and the cars can be seen at any time in Fenton. Both are road worthy and can be driven wherever, no towing required. Though I'll probably have to swap the tires on the 86 first.

Some pics can be seen on my Craigslist add, as you can see, Ive knocked the prices down for F-body members.

So come buy em, help me finance the 73 I'm trying to get from a texas boneyard!

well im going to start striping down my 82 trans am to fund my turbo build for my 86 so here goes! im currently driving the car still for the next week or two till my yukon is fixed but once i get it back i wil b e disassembiling the car.

the body is solid no major rust anywere to my knowledge and the tbody is very straight. it has black interior with the driver seat well worn as most are but the rears and the pass side are near mint! rear glass is tinted manual windows/locks the car itself has about 135k on it. 3.73 gears 28 spline axles and posi. i built a tubular trans xmember for it that is very strong. would like it to go to a good home. main reason ive kept it is because of the excelent condition considering its year. it is missing the shifter i have a megashifter in it which i will be keeping.
the car no longer has 17s on it it has the 15s pictured
asking 700obo

the car is a project car it's very solid with t-tops and trans am bumpers and most of the trans am ground effects. the car has a 1996 LT1 and 4L60E trans out of a caprice runs and drives but needs a Y pipe. the cumputer has NOT been reprogramed but it runs and drives just fine.

What it needs: a windshield driver door and fender (fender is reparible) the Y pipe and some interior work (the interior is all thier and not that bad but needs the top of councle replaced and the carpet cleaned or replaced)
The gauges are NOT hooked up I never even tried I planed on putting in a 4th gen dash and gauges so everything would just plug in.

I'm asking $3200 OBO for it not in a big hurry to get rid of it but right now I don't have the extra cash to put into it. so for right now it will be up for sale until it's gone or I come across some money and some parts.

As of a TRADE: i'm really wanting a GTA if I can get one I may trade for somethig else just let me know what you have I like alot of different stuff.
The car is always garaged, and has not seen a winter or a drop of rain since makeover. It has only been driven on dry, cool days. It’s driven it approx. 500 miles/yr.(adult driven, not beat!). It’s Clean (see pics), NO accidents, A/C ice cold, All Pwr. The interior is customed as a theme to the paint. Very rarely, the turn signal arm does'nt seem to click to the right the first time, it's never bothered me at all. At worst, it's a $30 switch at Advance Auto. All this for $5800, it will be hard to find nicer!

My second baby was born in August and I just don't have time to finish the car and treat her like she needs to be treated. That said, the car isn't perfect and isn't running right now because I'm having timing/ignition/fuel issues. The car was running this summer though, and I've a dyno sheet to prove it. It would be a great project for someone who has the time to give it. The body has 123K miles and I put a new 350 in last summer. A short list of what's been done and I have all the paperwork.

new 355 with maybe 2k miles on it
Spohn Sub Frame connectors
BeCool aluminum Radiator
Hotchkiss Front and rear Sway Bars and lowering springs
new Poly Bushings
Wonderbar
New rear-end (3.37 Zexel Torsen)
Rebuilt transmission
4th Gen interior
Headers
3" catback

You can follow the link below to my Cardomain web-site to see everything that's been done which includes pictures. It also has power everything, windows, door locks (which work but don't always lock or unlock--mechanism just needs cleaning) which lock fine with the key and T-tops. the AC works as does the cruise control. I'm asking $5500 or best offer.

Florida 87 Formula LS1 swap w/ bad drivetrain

It's been fun putting together third gen fbodies with LS1s and have guys at the local shows either say "what the hell kind of intake is that?" or "why would you bother putting that in this!" But I've got my eyes on getting an 04 GTO now and the third gen game doesn't sound as fun anymore.

So the situation is that a couple weeks ago something went wrong in the motor. Low oil situation has caused an odd inconsistent tapping sound coming from something near the oil pan. My best guess is a rod bolt hitting the windage tray, but I dont know this for a fact because I havnt pulled anything from the car to inspect, nor do I plan to. ...

Body
*1987 Firebird formula. arctic white with a pearl flake paint.
* red interior except for the seats and seatbelts which are black.
* Shaved door handles and antenna
* C5 Y2K wheels.
* Competition Engineering Subframe connectors
* Spohn adjustable torque arm w/ 4l60e crossmember
* Spohn ls1 motor mounts
* Spohn steering brace (wonderbar)
* 4th gen 10 bolt, rear disc, 3.23 posi

Drivetrain
* 98 LS1 w/ ~100k miles on it. inconsistent knocking coming from oil pan which I suspect to be a rod bolt hitting the windage tray. (Motor still turns over if somebody would like to hear it.)
* LPE GT2-3 Cam, Comp 918 springs and hardened pushrods.
* SLP UD Pulley
* LS6 intake
* Custom standalone wiring harness / fuse box
* Custom 1 3/4 long tube headers built for swap w/ 3in collector. 3" to 3" custom y pipe, TSP Rumbler cat back.
* 98 4L60e w/ ~100k miles. unexplained soft shifts probably caused by line pressure control going. Most likely just good for rebuild core now
* Transgo HD2 shift kit
* PTC 3200 stall

Price $3500 OBO . I am flexible with what you want to pay. If you would like to pay a lower price and take some of the mods off you dont need, we can definitely work something out. If you dont want the broken drivetrain, we can work that out too.

She is definitely a good looking car and it has a unique style that people recognize instantly around town. Mechanically speaking, I never had an issue with the car itself, just the drivetrain I put into it. I'd love to see this go to a good home.

Some pictures of things put together.

            The car is a 1989 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am GTA. The color is a factory color called Gunmetal Gray Metallic, and it has a gray leather interior. It has a 305 cid. TPI with a 5-speed manual transmission. Has the WS6 (Suspension Package), MM5 (Manual Transmission) and Y84 (GTA) RPO codes. The car is 1 of 644 produced in 1989 in the color Gunmetal Gray, it is also 1 of 366 produced in 1989 with a 5-speed, making only one of a few 1989 cars that are Gray and have 5-speeds. I have only seen two other Gray cars in person, and both were automatics. It has 47,608 miles, no rust, and is clean inside and out, as well as underneath. I have owned the car for about 2 ½ years and it has only seen rain two or three times, stored in the winters, driven late spring/summer/early fall only. The car is very dependable, starts up every time, no issues with overheating. It has been driven to Trans Am Nationals 3 times (roughly 500 miles round trip) and has not had issues. The car has been treated well and has not been beat on or abused.

            The paint does have a few issues, the clear coat is failing in 2 places (near the hood on each side), and there are some chips and scratches on the front bumper. The rear of the car; roof, quarter panels, and the rear have been repainted by a previous owner. The hood, doors, front bumper, and fenders are original paint. It is hard to tell the difference though, and overall the paint is in good condition. I have received many compliments on the color. It is also a color that you will not see very often (as opposed to the numerous red, black, and white cars).

            The engine is a 305 TPI and has been very dependable and performed well. Sometimes it does smoke upon start, and it sometimes idles a little higher than it should. Overall there hasn’t really been any problems with the engine, when I first bought the car it wasn’t running right, but once the fuel injectors were replaced it has ran fine (aside from the occasional high idle). I haven’t had any problems with overheating or any other issues with the engine. I also haven’t had any other mechanical issues with the car. The engine bay is clean, as well as underneath the car.

            The interior is gray leather. The outside edges of the seats (driver and passenger) are ripped, with the driver seat being a little worse than the passenger seat. Both rear seats are in great condition. Other than the rips on the sides the seats are in good condition and are comfortable. The headliner does sag in several places (a common issue with these cars). The rest of the interior is clean and in good condition. The dash is NOT cracked (it is very common for these cars to have a cracked dash pad). The carpet is clean, as well as the doors. The trunk compartment is also very clean.

            While I have owned the car several parts have been replaced including; fuel injectors (as mentioned earlier) fuel pump (thought this was the problem originally, but it was the injectors). The bird emblems on the sail panel are new, the car came with incorrect center caps, those have since been replaced with the correct ones. The car also came with a stripe on it, which has been removed (it is very hard to tell that it was even there). The tires were purchased last summer (BFGoodrich G-Force Sports 245/50/16 all around) and are in good condition, they have not seen very many miles.

In Smithfield, Utah, a 1984 Trans Am WS6. Poor condition, see pics, but never crashed, good title, never modified or upgraded, except the time I test-fitted the 454. That cracked the heater box thing, but I'm including a good replacement from a '91 Camaro. Also I'm including spare T-tops with matching key. These front tires are nearly new, as are all the brake pads. The car has about 200,000 miles on it. The original LG4 and 700R-4 are long gone, but it still has the rear disc brakes in good functional condition. The posi seems to be worn out, but it is the original 3.23:1 posi rear. These wheels are also the originals. The car has been sitting outdoors for about 14 years now. The price is $400 firm, cash only. Phone 435 713 5750 mornings except Sunday. Here are the pics, I'm uploading 10 that I just took.

i'm trying to sell it here first because i think the people here are most capable of giving this car what it needs.

for sale: '86 firebird 2.8L V6 $800 obo central Indiana

good things: t-tops, almost no body rust(some paint bubbles), frame rust just surface not too bad, rear tires brand new, front ok, new fuel injectors, just changed head gaskets, runs good enough to get me to work every day for the past month.

the bad:(not promising i don't forget something i loose track of my to do list on her) head liner is just foam, hatch won't open, no driver side mirror glass, inconsistent battery drain that is hidding somewhere, dash and driver door pannel need put back on, driver seat torn up, i think the hatch leaks a little, driver door sagging and water will drip in... etc i try to do better if your interested but i think you get the picture. she runs but needs work.

still working on it to get more ready for sale locally so some of the stuff like door pannels and dashboard will probably get fixed this weekend, sooner you buy it the less time i'll have into it and more likely to make a deal

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/me...-firebird.html
http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/in...se-sexy-3.html

Here are some details about the car:

1983 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am
This car since being restored has only been driven to Local Car Shows/Cruises or around the neighborhood. It did take 3rd Place at the Northampton Car Show back in 2006 when the feature cars were Camaros, Firebirds and GTOs.

The body was restored and has no rust, it was professionaly painted in 2006 with Black Metallic. The original hood was replaced by a "98-02 Style Ram Air Hood" and it has T-Tops. I have restored most of the car except for the engine and trans. It has the original V8 305 and 700r4 trans. It has a little over 100,000 miles (cant remember exact amount) but it still runs and drives GREAT and VERY STRONG.

This would be a great car for someone to buy and drive to car shows with little or no work needed to be done to. Or it can be great car for someone who wants to finish customizing it with their own ideas or even replace the stock motor with a larger more powerful V8 than the 305 that it has now. I was planning on putting in a 350 or 400 for more power but never did get around to that. Here are some major upgrades or parts to the car that have been added:
Engine:
Rebuilt Edelbrock Performer 600cfm Carb (less than 100 miles)
Edelbrock RPM Performer Intake
Edelbrock Signature Series Valve Covers
Interior:
6 point Roll CageBlack
Vinyl Racing Seats (look and feel like leather)
Racing Seat Belts
Custom Vinyl Door Panels (look and feel like leather)
New Black Front Carpet
Nice Black Rear Carpet
Nice Black Interior
New Custom Headliner
White Face Gauge Covers
Exterior:
"98-02 Style Ram Air Hood"
Brand New Firestone Firehawk Tires (less than 50 miles on them)
Brand New 15" Polished Aluminum Racing 5 Star wheels by Summit
New Lock Set (Trunk lock included but not installed)
New Window sweeps
New Door Weatherstrip
Custom Grill Mesh Insterts
Comes with Car Cover made espically for TA

And a bunch more custom pieces here and there and others items that I cant think of off the top of my head.

This is a great car and I hate to part with it but sadly I have the same story as most, I have to cut down the toys due to the economy. There is one issue with the car is the Transmission, it has a slow leak, mainly due to the broken spedo gear, once replaced the leak probably will stop. I just need to add some tranny fluid once and a while, it not a big deal.

This car has a clean R-title and is newly inspected and insured with Car Collector's Insurance. It's title is a R-title due to the previous owner had it stolen and then recovered. Since it was reported stolen even though it was recoved with very little damage (a cracked steering column) it needs to be listed as a R-title. But there is nothing wrong with the car and there are no leins on it.

Please feel free to ask any questions i will answer them as soon as i can. Please serious questions or offers only.

There is no warranty on the car as this car is being Sold As IS. Thanks for looking.

I am asking $7,000 obo (within reason)Post a reply to this or PM me and I can then send you my email or cell #

I'm seriously considering parting with my '89, and I'm trying to get a feel for interest and value of such a fine machine- All jokes aside, I have roughly 3 grand in it as it sits, and thats parts and materials, no labor even considered. I'm thinking between $2500 and $3000 for it, but ya'll give me some feedback.

Details- '89 WS6, L03 TBi 305, 700R4. T-Tops,Silver 16" T/A lace wheels, Kumho Solus tires 235/60/16 (wrong size, but 80% tread remaining). Peg leg rear, drum rear brakes. Has complete ignition replaced, including coil, distributor, pickup, cap, Taylor Wires. New Fuel Pump (there's a shocker) . New Sony CD Headunit and speakers. The body I'd give a 7 out of 10. Fresh paint, but the work is less than perfect...(I paid a buddy to shoot it who "needed the money"...Yeah. Anyway. ) 10 feet away, looks fabulous. Rear spoiler was crap, but couldn't find one at the time of painting- Looks OK, but it ain't. The next week after it left the paint shop I found a MINT original from an '86, which will be included with the car. Some rust in driver front floor pan, as driver side t-top leaks- Still does, I just keep it outof the rain, LOL. Other than that, trans shifts firm and reliably, has Eibach Lowering springs in rear, new shocks, sway bar end links at all 4 corners, and is quite dependable- I drove it daily for a year. Has 113K Orig Miles on it. A/C does not work. Needs headliner. I haven't driven the car in 2 months, and I think I'm going to let it ride, and finish up some more projects. Feel free to hurl ideas at me, I'm all ears. Interesting trades also considered- By interesting, I mean GM stuff only.
