ok, so im new here and i have an 89 firebird. the problem i have is that both of the headlights pop up very smoothly, but neither go down. searching these forums ive found that its probably the isolation relay thats the issue, and even gotten the part number. the ploblem im having, tho, is where to get a new one to replace it. if anyone knows of where i can get it or maybe a way to cross-reference it to another relay, any help would be appreciated. thanks!

Hey guys, I recently got an 85 trans am

the wiring in this car is a mess, I'm surprised it survived this long without a fire, so obviously I'm looking into a new wiring harness

I noticed that summit sells the exact same universal wiring harness as painless does for half the price, I asked the customer service and they said the only real difference is the name on the box and summit's is 200$ cheaper.

So if your looking into getting a harness, don't throw your money away.

Right Tail Light Not Working

My right tail light is not working, I am not sure when it went out, but I noticed it after replacing the interior carpet and seats. Everything else works great (brake, reverse, binkers, side and left tail (running)). Just the right tail/running light is out and I have replaced all the bulbs with new.

I have put the meter on the sockets and sure enough they are not getting power. Now here lies the problem... The right tail/running lights have a brn/wht wire running to them. I have checked every schematic I can find and it doesn't show up anywhere. The wiring harness is original and yet no manual shows a brn/wht to tail lights. Regardless, I follow the wire up to the front through the harness and continuously there is not voltage. I lose the wire when it goes into the bundled harness under the top left of dash. I pulled the switch and voltage is good across all connections. There is NO brn/wht wire, there is the brn as shown in all the schematics. Has anyone ever seen a brn/whit tail light wire? Do you know where it would be getting its power? Again, it's just the right rear running/tail light.

Thank you!!

Fan and Alternator not working where to check

Here is what happened. I start the car and everything is fine, go out next day and the fans and alternator are not working.

I have been checking older posts for two days and still cannot find what I am looking for.

The car is a 1987 Pontiac Trans Am with the 5.0L FI engine with an automatic. I noticed the alternator was not charging and the passenger side fan, which had been hardwired through the relay, were not coming on. I located the relay and took it apart and that is when I found a piece of wire connected inside the relay that made it turn the cooling fan on when the ignition was on, I have purchased and installed a new relay. The car has the voltage gauge, not the light.

I do some reading and discover that the tan wire with white stripe are connected to the fan relay and alternator. I go out and probe the wires with a multi-meter and find the wire. I check for voltage and there is none. I then jump the battery lug from the alternator to the tan/white wire and the fan starts. I go ahead and start the car and low and behold I am getting 14.5 volts at the battery. The alternator wires on my car are a brown, tan/white, a thinner red, and a thick red. I am using an Ohio Generator high output alternator so the two red wires are connnected to the battery lug, the tan/white is on the "2" terminal on the regulator and the brown wire is just capped and tied up. I, and the previous owner, have not had a problem with this.

I then did some more reading and found out there is a "fan" fuse under the dash. I go ahead and try and check that, but the writing on the fuse holder is gone. I did find one burnt up spot where a fuse used to go, but no fuse there and not label so I do not know what it goes to.

I need a picture of the fuse panel with the spaces for the fuses. Also does anyone know where the tan/white wire go from the alternator to the fan relay. Is it into the dash, to the ECM? I just need to find where the break in the circuit is so I can fix it. I think since I am getting the fan relay to work the break has to be before the alternator and not after it. I did get a replacement relay so now the fans will come on when they are supposted to. I also know that I could just use a jumper wire from the alternator lug to the tan/white wire, but I would rather just fix it right. Also the car has the voltage gauge, not the light.

I know the post is long and maybe hard to follow as I left out some non important stuff during testing.

Thanks,
Eric

Hey everyone, me and a friend of mine both own '88 Firebirds, mine's a Formula, hers is a Trans Am. She's been having a problem with the headlight motors on hers though, all the lights still work, and the motors are still getting power because when you turn the headlights on or off you can hear the motors turning but the lights don't move.

I've already tried manually lowering them, and even when you manually turn the knob, they still won't move, on both of them, and the actuator arm between the motor and the lights themselves are both still strongly attached.

A mechanic she took it to said something about bearings, and wanted almost $2000 to fix it. So I'd just like to know if there's anything I can do to keep from having to spend that kind of money.:thanks:

A couple of weeks ago i arced my positive terminal of my battery to body...yeah i know it's stupid. Anyways, it was running horribly so i replaced the negative battery cable. It ran perfect for about a day. The next day it started stuttering when i would accelerate from a stop at about every other stop so i replaced the coil. The next day it started doing it at every stop...then the next day it kept was still doing it, but this time it died. I couldn't get it to start for about 15 minutes. I unhooked the + battery cable and hooked it back up, then it started and i was able to get the two blocks to my house. I have no idea what this could be. Any suggestions???

PS i replaced EGR valve, IAC sensor, TPS about a year ago and CTS sensor about a month ago. Plugs and wires are brand new, and the coil and cap and rotor are also about a month old. I took off the performance coil i had on after the incident and put on a stock one to see if it helped, but i didn't really notice any difference until this started happening. :gocrazy:

On the way to work this morning, my Camaro sputtered and died on me. When I restarted it my interior lights were stuck on, and the blinkers/tails/headlights/parking lamps all flickered as if the 4 ways were on, but much faster. I also hear a clicking under the dash on the passenger side that coincides with the flashing. Sometimes it's a constant buzzing rather than a clicking. When the ignition is off, the lights stay on. I had to pull fuses so I didn't kill my battery when I parked it!

What happened, anybody seen this before?! It's a 1984 Berlinetta.
