after talking to him for a while, i learned that the car had only 73k miles on it. his grandfather used it only for long highway trips and sunday roadtrips with his wife, then once in a while the uncle would come along and open her up to blow out the black smoke. "well, if she ever wants to sell it, find me." i told him.

so a few years passed. i checked out a few firebirds, nothing wa ever as good as it looked. i always found filler or mis-aligned panels, all of which turned me away. then a friend of mine bought a 92 firebird, 350 auto. it was a great car, but i couldnt deal with the auto. 350 power was nice, but ive always hated the slushboxes. i was about ready to buy it and swap transmissions when he "forgot" to put the oil drain plug in and made a giant 350cid paperweight... but thats a story for another day.

so time went on. i had a son, and at that point had given up on the idea of a firebird. then it happened. my work associate came in one day... "shes ready to sell."

I was so excited I couldn't think straight. The car had brand new tires, a new clutch, new distributor, rotor, cap, wires, a full tune up, everything was perfect and ready to go. it was like a brand new 1989 car. she hadnt planned to sell, but needed room for her new car. in the last 10, the car had been driven less than 1000 miles per year, so she couldnt hold onto it anymore. after a lot of debate it was decided. i was going to buy this firebird. ]]> Members Firebirds kern676 http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/members-firebirds/550271-my-89-firebird-story.html <![CDATA[new member with '82 trans am]]> http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/members-firebirds/549940-new-member-82-trans.html Wed, 18 Nov 2009 07:23:51 GMT hey just thought i'd show off the trans am im picking up this saturday.

i've been searching for a third gen for a while and came upon this one on craigslist last week. at first i wanted a camaro but the more i looked at a firebird i wanted one. it also didn't help that my buddy has a 4th gen trans am ws6 and he's been egging me on to get one. so i did. well, eventually.

so the guy wanted $500/obo for it and after talking in emails i went and looked at it and test drove it. i didn't make an opffer right away cause i wanted to think about it first, but i made him an offer of $300 and a laptop i had through email and he went for it. i know it's gonna need some work to look good but that's why i wanted a project.

How can I make them work? They made the car look so much better. I don't want to put the old '84 style lights back on.....:crazy:

I took some pictures after I picked it up, but was in a hurry and they are overexposed. :( I'll take some better pictures next time and I'll be sure to put the caps on. The hood decal will be replaced soon.

But I did all my brake lines and lowered her an inch this season. I'll grab some better pics soon. but next weekend I should be sanding the rust off the bottom and the wheel wells of my car and applying rust bullet then topping it with gloss black rusteloum brush on paint. after that I'm pulling my trans to rebuild it with my boss and I may do an engine swap at the same time depending on what I can find with low mileage in my price range (I may have an engine all lined up though :nod:).. let me know what you guys think and I know she could use a wash and some tire shine so be nice.

I'm François, I'm 21 and I live in the north of France near Dunkirk. I'm a fashion design student and a big Firebird fan. My first is a 1979 Firebird Esprit that is being restored completely, she's a rust bucket.
I had written a big thread but it has been removed with many others I can't find.

So here's my 1984 Trans Am HO 5 speed as she was just after I brought it home from the UK, where I bought her for a riduculously low price. I won it on eBay, seeing the number of options and the relative rarity I couldn't let it go. 82-84s are very rare in Europe :
