I picked up a Winter project and am not sure which way to go. Parts car is a 85 TA with a new 350/Hooker headers/air gap intake with a Holley 750/MSD ignition/new heads ported and polished not sure on valve sizes/GTA disk rear.Car was set up for quarter mile with roll cage . Just never got finished and that's how I bought it. This is the donor car with some rust. The car all is going into is a stock 1988 TA 305 TPI 90,000 miles in need of exhaust, suspension, and head work.I plan on moving all the good stuff from the 85 to the 88 including swapping the t-top roof. Question is to swap the intake and TPI from the 305 to the 350 going in or stay with the air gap and carb?Mileage? Performance?Reliability?

I have a 89 5.0 tpi that is taking a **** on my now so I was wondering if I should swap it out for a 97 votec 350 I have, the engine is not running but I was planning on just doing a stock rebuild and throwing on my TPI set up(I need the base plate to make this work right?). Then just thorw a good size cam, runners, injectors, headers and a tune and just calling it a day, or this same set up but on a TBI 350 out of a 92 van. I dont want to spend too much(1- 2 year I plan on an lsx/t56 swap) I will be doing all the work myself too. What motor should I use? Whats the price difference between the two as far as getting them in?

van that I was thinking about doing the same with(instead tho)

.454 lift cam with stock Vortec Heads

Hello all,

In reading up on the vortec head swap on my goodwrench 350 most people reccomended machining to the heads or valve seal mods for higher lift cams. I spoke to my local gearhead machinist who has considerable knowledge and he indicated that my .454 lift cam (at .50) will not be a problem, and he said to run them straight, he would be more concerned when lift gets closer to .5 or so.

I like this information, but I thought I would pass it by anyone who may have done a similar swap. Mine is a daily driver, and will have a Edelbrock performer intake, so I am positive I won't be running it hard all the time.. Although I'm looking forward to more bottom end.

Any checks I can do myself? Is it coil bind or valve seal clearance? Should I just upgrade the valve seals and leave it at that?

Any info is appreceated!

Thanks!

So next year I'm planning on getting a new engine for the Camaro, cause I have no idea how to rebuild one. I remember seeing somewhere on a site a 300 horsepower 305 around $1000. Well if a 305 and a 350 had the same horsepower, would they still run the same? Does a 305 weigh dramatically less and save more fuel? I'd get a carborated one either way. And would I need any new parts, the car is already a stock 5 speed shifter hooked to a 305, will a more powerful engine destroy the gears or soemthing if I drive it too hard?

Brand new 300 HP 305 vs 350:
Price
Economy
Weight
Space
Power
Acceleration

Thanks for any wisdom you can give me.

I just swapped out my 305 out of an 84 trans am for a 400 small block with 461 (circle track) heads. The heads are like new and in good shape, Not worth trading or selling IMO(unless absolutely neccesary). The problem is the heads have no accessory holes, and have no room for them to be added in. I *want* power steering, but am willing to ditch the ac, Alt is necessary though. I need brackets for this motor, but am having a very hard time finding the right ones.

The best place i have found is Alan Grove components, but I am unsure what type power steering pump came on the 84 TA as well as the alternator. Someone willing to share some info?

I will also be getting headers, so an exhaust mount might be difficult. Anyone with more experience than me have any ideas?

Its almost that time, ive been saving for awhile now and im ready for a 350.

The plan was to get an LT1, but ive heard mixed reviews about the Opti-spark issues and i know the A/C is an issue. And I dont know if its worth the "hell and high water" to do the wiring and fuel/power steering lines. So lately ive been reading up on the L98. And the only issue is the lack of a computer, but that doesn't really bother me.

And the L98 swap seems more affordable and more of a first swap. and a pretty tourquey motor.

Ive read almost all the swap guides on this site but none really do a comparison of the two, So the professional opinions would be cool.\\

Hello all: I just purchased a Cherry 1991 RS today for $750 it is almost spotless, one bad rust spot, one rip in the interior. Lots of little Sh--tuff worn out, fan switch, AC fan, tilt loose, .:blah:.:blah:. She has 205k on the register, and was a 45 year old Lady's pride and joy,and she had all the recipts for every dollar spent on it since it was 2 years old. now on to the motor, it does run strong, I pusshed it to 90 clicks on test drive. but is kind of noisy, lifters, and possably an injector. I am in the planning stages, but I would like to put a 3.8 in her for better millage. any input on this idea? and before you all start with the V8 argument, I have a 1988 Convertible that is getting the "fun" V8 treatment. this one is going to be my millage car since I drive 100 clicks a day round trip. but what a cool millage driver, bling bling all the way to the bank. imports eat your heart out!

If there are any other parts that i will need please just let me know thank you again for your help.

Hello, I joined this forum a fews years back. At the time I had an 85 Trans Am, I regretfully sold it but now have bought an 89 Firebird. I am thinking of building an engine to these specs.

350 block bored 30 over

Trick Flow 500hp Top end kit
http://www.trickflow.com/partdetail....0&autoview=sku

I realize due to how they dyno motors, it will not be 500hp in car. My car has full accessories but no smog equipment. I am curious as to what HP I can expect on a motor like this. Also, what kind of RWHP numbers would I be looking at through a TH-350? I appreciate all input.
