lately ive noticed that if i start my camaro up and dont touch the throttle at all for an extended time (1-2 min) it starts getting "confused"
what i mean is that it seems to loose the ability to keep a stable idle.
normally it idles right around 650 rpms just fine, but after awhile, it starts jumping between ~500 and ~750.
it will usually be from 500 to 750 and back in about 1.5-2 sec.
if i touch the gas or put a load on the engine it smooths back out.
if i let it go, it will get a bit worse then get better and stop altogether for a while only to start again later.
it does it warm and cold

anyone know what could possibly be the cause of this and what i should do to remedy this?
ive already tried to adjust the IAC motor and it seems to help the general idle quality but since i had never noticed the problem before, i cant say if it helped at all with the surging.
if i raise the idle up with the stop screw in the throttle body to about 750 or so, it wont do it nearly as bad if at all.

to me it seems like the computer/IAC motor cannot react fast enough and is getting caught in a YO-YO motion until i step in and tap the gas

Changing ECM to PLC

Hey all. I've been a member for a while but this is my first post. I know most of us love to modify the hell outta our cars but I've never come across this one. Would it be practical to change the ECM in our cars out for a PLC (programmable logic controller)? I mean, we do all of these add ons and module build ups and prom burning, but what if you could change the parameters off of a touchscreen and not need a laptop to do it? all of the signals from sensors and such are either digital or analog, all going back out to valves and solenoids. We could do this with a good PLC program and some knowledge of ladder logic. you could control the whole car (including security, lighting, other toys) with 1 controller instead of 20. Subroutines could be written to handle the various calculations, and the CPU's can run faster than a microprocessor. Wanna go from tbi to tpi? a 30 second program dump, an output card and some wiring would fix that. aside from size, which most of us find creative ways to hide things anyway, what would be the drawbacks?

I have a 1992 Camaro L03 305 Automatic. I purchased a EPROM from E-bay...a Jet Stage 2 (has 1993) stamped on it. Anyway, I installed it this evening and all the car does is crank; will not start, and the fan comes on. If I install the original chip back in the car starts. Should I have dropped the negative cable; installed the chip, and then attempted to restart? I didn't get any installation instructions so I just thought it would be plug and play. Any assistance anyone can provide is appreciated.

Hey guys,
I'm swapping a tpi onto my 68 chevelle. The motor is a destroked 400(377). I can't remember what cam I originally put in the motor, but it's a fairly lumpy. I put the motor together at least 10 years ago and the c ar has been sitting. The problem I'm faced with is running SD or MAF. I'm told that Maf is a little more forgiving with mods. SD will work, I just need a custom prom. Which system is better in the long run? How much cam can you run with either system. I have a SD computer already (7730) but am wondering if I should go MAF because the engine is far from stock. Opinions please! Thanks

Today I took a 200 mile round trip to go pick up some parts from craigs list and 30 miles into the return trip I pulled into a rest stop and the truck was idling bad and stalled as I got into a parking spot and wouldnt restart. Just crank and crank and every once in a while it would catch and run for a second but die and a puff of smoke would come out the throttle body. It was doing perfectly fine on the freeway though, no symptoms at all. No CEL and when I finally got the truck home 4 hours later and got it off the wrecker the damn thing started right up and ran great, just like before. I even took it around the block and it was perfect but now I'm nervous to take it very far from home.

What is your opinions on what can cause something like this without setting a code? I am thinking maybe a ignition module starting to go bad and the heat it created from 1.5 hours of driving made it so it died till it had time to cool off. Sound logical? Its one of the few parts that isnt new.

I couldnt test the fuel pressure out on the road but the pump is a brand new Delco pump and I could not only hear it prime but I could hear fuel circulating. I did have spark when it was going on, I dont know if it is was timed correctly but it was sparking.

Its the truck in my signature, I should also mention that I have a MSD Digital 6+.

I want to change the fuel pump and add the TPI injectors to my TBI wiring harness and all I read is about repinning. What I want to know is why can't I just Add injectors and pump and be good to go?
Since the TPI is a batch fire system why wouldn't when the TBI signal says fire the injector be the same as batch firing. I know I would have to tap into a couple different connects as well but I looking for why it wopuldn't work to get a better understadning why not.
