I originally had a sub box in the cargo area but I scrapped it and made a lid for the cargo area with a hinge and made the subs built in with the amp mounted on the floor underneath. I noticed a serious loss of bass power when i did this, i;m guessing it is because the subs aren't sealed and sound is escaping downward. I was thinking about using either a mixing bowl or a wok (purchased from "Bed, Bath and Beyond") to seal each sub... Will it work?? i don't see why not but i'm just a novice...

Thanks!

Hey whats going on guys, I live in SI and a guy just opened up a custom car shop named Kustom Car Creations. I went to speak the owner, he seems like a knowledgable guy . I wanted to make a custom center console and put gauges in my dash pad and do a set of HIDS in my fog lights. He said he would do the HIDS for $100 bucks installed with a 1 year warrenty.. Does anyone know if thats a good price ? He also gave me a price of 500 bucks for the gauges in dash pad, all fiberglassed and wired up etc.. Im not to sure what the going rate is for fiberglass but he said it could take up to a week to be finished .. Does anyone know if thats a good deal or am I getting ripped off ?

Im finally going to transfer to an aftermarket sound system in my 1992 firebird. I have been having a hard time finding a great head unit that matches my amber backlights i will not but a blue backlight i just dont too much care for it. If someone has any suggestions please let me know. Btw i think i will go with a singled din head unit. But for some reason i really like the amber background that came with the car and i do not want to ruin the flow. I know im stoopid

Part one.
for my head unit i was thinking of the one that the luiminas and early 2000s trucks/avalanches had. except i would be using the one for cassettes.

my question is, i know they have head units that read sd cards, but how hard/if possible, would it be to modify the head unit i wish to use to be able to accept and play them? i wouldnt be doing the work either btw.

Part 2.
i just thought of a cool little thing. you guys know the cassettes that have the wires that you can plug into your mp3 player to play music in your car?

well do they make a cassette that has a slot for SD cards so you can just pop it in, slide the cassette in and play?

I just bought a custom fitted camaro box for 2 12"s subs for my 92 camaro Z28

My brother gave me 2 12" subs...they are Rockford Fosgates...my brother bought them new in 2001 and paid about $350 a piece...back then they were really good I guess...He only used them for about a year so they are in really good condition still

The problem is...he doesnt know much about subs or amp...and neither do I...here are some specs for the subs

Specs from: http://www.tuningmania.com.br/autoso...ord_f/subs.htm

RFR-1812 12" Punch Power Woofer (for each sub)

Nominal Impedance: 8 Ohm

Power Handling: 600 Watts RMS

Peak Power: 1200 Watts

Sensitivity: 88dB

FS: 27 Hz

QTS: .44

VAS: 3.5 cu. ft. (99.4L)

XMAX: 0.24"

Voice Coil Diameter: 4"

Mounting Depth: 5 19/32" (142.1mm)

I dont know what haft that stuff means but I am sure someone here does...all I know is RMS watts and max watts...my brother had only a bazooka el 1500...and its obvious needs an upgrade

My question is What Watt power amp am I shooting for in RMS or MAX? or better yet...what amp...brand and model # would be the perfect match (or as close as possible) for those subs....also the size wire I would need depending on the amp you recommend

Also a question....how good are those subs (oldschool) rockford fosgate compared to the the new series like the P1,P2 or P3?? (in case I want to upgrade later)...:thanks::thanks::thanks:

Hey guys, the power antenna on my 91 Trans Am suddenly just went bad (like this morning) and the thing with it is that the motor can't seem to get a good grip on the antenna. It'll go up on its own pretty well, but when it needs to come back down when I turn the car off it gets stuck and the motor keeps going and going. I assumed that it would stop after a while but it doesn't seem like it. I have to go out and push the antenna down a bit so it can grab and then it slowly goes down. I was wondering if there's a way to disconnect the motor so the antenna just stays up all the time so I don't have to worry about forgetting to push the thing down and the motor killing the battery (A way to possibly fix the antenna permanently would be nice if anybody knows too). The fuse for the antenna also controls a few other things so I can't pull it out. Any help would be great. :thanks:

okay i've already did a search here and i'm pretty confused from what's going on...

I own a 89 gta and i have decided to repair my power antenna mast since it was broken off a few years ago. (I disconnect the relay to prevent from the motor from continuously running and draining the battery.)

Here's my issue...
after reading several threads about what is the correct part number to get as the replacement, (aka pt# 22038195) I've discovered that this part number only works on vehicles for 82-88 models. However a couple of people mention that this part has also worked on a someone's '89 TTA and a 92 GTA...

The oem gm part number for 89-91 is 22072184 and i haven't been able to find the superseded number for this, nor can i find the part anywhere or even at my local dealership. They say the number is valid but that part has been discontinued. Under the search results i haven't been even able to find this part number as well)

i wish not to purchase the whole assembly (if it's even avaliable)
and the original part number for that complete unit is 22093964....

anywho if there's any help to clarify this i would extremely appreciate it...
I'm willing to spend the money that is needed to get the situation fixed as this is part of my restoration process....

Hey guys,

Hey guys,

While working at a shop, a friend of mine gave me a free pioneer unit (Not a new model, im thinking its a bit old) and wired it up for me. It's been buggy so far, but its better than having nothing at all. But there are a few things i want to fix.

The head unit needs to be turned on manually when I start the car. I found out tonight that the unit turns off when I have the headlights on. And lastly, the unit turns off when I put too much power into it. If I push the bass and other setting up and it crank it up to about 11 or 12, the screen flickers and eventually shuts off. My friend told me one of the speaker wires might be grounded and that I'd have to get to fix it. I believe he also said there was a problem with the direct current, and that's why I have to manually turn the unit on.

And lastly, my radio doesn't tune. I know this is going to be stupid, but where is the antenna located? I have a 91 camaro and it doesn't have an antenna on the outside. I dont know if the PO took it off or if it's concealed somewhere.

Thanks

I am in my school shop working on my parent's S10 for a project,
The cd player in it quit working some before me and my parents were talking about using it for a shop project.
it doesn't turn on or anything, so I pulled the CD player out and checked both the power and negative wires and they are making good connection to all the way to the plug in back of the CD player.

I don't know any other reason why it shouldn't work, and I don't know what have caused it to not work.

(and I don't think there is a wire grounding out, but I could be wrong. when we first bought the truck, I'd put a CD in and it would shut off and spit the CD out, and i'd have to turn it back on and it would do it again. later in the summer when I was helping my mom clean it, I found a wire that went under the carpet that was touching the body, and I got rid of it and it fixed the CD problem)

I carefully took it apart (to see if I can find anything that broke or melted.)
only thing I see wrong is the white wire tab (not sure what else to call it?) connects from the main circuit board to the cd holder. there is a small circle and two wires shown, but I don't think they were melted or no burn marks from what I can make out of it.

if any one wants to know what type of cd player it is, it is a Pioneer DEH-43 (SupertunerIII)

I really don't want to toss it in the garbage and go get a new one, because I do have hope for it to work and be great if I can make it work.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

They are all wired into a relay berfore the battery. I am also running two deep cycle marine batteries, with a 145 amp alternator. NOW it all works great, even at high levels for a while, eventually(15 20 mins or so) the subs start cutting out at higher levels, then start at lower and lower levels. Eventually it pops the relay and they stop all together, and i cant seem to figure out why!!!!:(
