Ok, so the closer I get to firing up my car, the more paranoid I have become with small things with the setup. Probably the one that sticks out in my mind right now is my fuel line.

I ran my -6AN braided line up the frame rail until it got to the cross member, which I then shot it up 45* straight into the transmission tunnel. It comes up into the engine compartment right next to the oil pressure sensor on the block just to give you an idea. The reason I did this is because my SSW long tubes tuck so close to the frame rail, I was afraid of boiling the fuel in the line if I ran it down the frame rail like the factory lines did all the way to the engine bay.

Now, I know the transmission shouldn't move around too much, but regardless, I'm paranoid. It wasn't TOO tight of a fit, but on the same token, there's not a whole lot of room between the bell housing and the trans tunnel. I figure the cross member with the trans mount, along with the torque arm being installed will keep movement to a minimum? What do you guys think?

I am new to the forums. I just picked up a 1991 Formula from a guy locally here in Indy. Its in the process of a 305 to 350 TBI swap. But I wanted to post up and show you all my 1995 Mazda RX-7 that I swapped a 2000LS1 and T56 into in 2007/2008. I got all the mounting parts from Hinson Super Cars in Alabama. The engine/trans are a complete pull out from a 2000 ws6 w/ 45k miles. I did all the work myself (aside from the exhaust I had a shop build that). The car runs great and is fun to drive.

just a small introduction.

I had a 1988 Formula in high school so I couldnt pass up the 1991 formula I got on craigslist for a trade. I just have to finish bolting the engine in, attach the wiring harness, and put fluids in it and it will be on the road. Im going to repaint it shortly after that.

Ok I have had nothing but trouble getting my Spohn mounts to work, I asked about in in my other thread already but nobody seemed to have an answer. I took some more photo's to show you guys too see if everything looks normal. It looks like normal to me but I don't know maybe I am missing something. I've tried all the installation methods you guys suggested to me and still am way off.

I sent Spohn an email and the only thing they could think of was if I was using aftermarket clamshells, which I am not. They are OEM units. Prothane mounts, but they should be made to mount up in an OEM way. I just emailed Prothane as well to verify that they are the right mounts and if anything looks off to them.

Here is my problem first off:

PCV system on truck blocks/valve covers?

I am trying to get everything buttoned up on my motor this week so my tuner can come over on Saturday for a test fire, and I thought I had the pcv setup down pat when I went over to my friend's house who has an LS1 and looked at his. His LS1 had a nipple on the driver side valve cover, which ran a hose behind the intake to another nipple on the back end of the passenger side valve cover, and then a 2nd nipple on the passenger side cover (front end) ran to a catch can then to an outlet on the intake manifold right behind the throttle body. Looked simple...Then I went back to my block and noticed my passenger side valve cover has only ONE nipple on it, the forward most one that goes to the catch can. So now I'm not sure what you're supposed to do with truck motors/valve covers. What do you run to the driver side valve cover? I did see an outlet on the intake on the drivers side, about symmetrical to the outlet on the passenger side. Are you supposed to run a hose from the intake all the way to the back end of the driver side cover, and then just run the one hose from the passenger side cover to a catch can and back into the intake?

Pictures for reference:

Finally posting my project thats been off and on for the past few years, as money comes and goes. 1989 z28 convertible, stock 305tbi/5spd in running condition. Still trying to find pics of the car when first bought it, never got a chance to drive it as I was working in New Orleans after the hurricanes. Got the car off ebay and had it shipped home, shortly after had the motor and tranny pulled and sold. Currently at the body shop, had all emblems decals removed, soda blasted, and should be in the process of being painted, which I will keep black. Its gonna have the jongbloed hood, billet grill, and some other little things. The stock(for now) ls2/6spd came out of a 06 gto with 11k miles, might do a head and cam swap. Not sure what to go with on the rear end, exuahst, bra, wheels tire, interior, and so on, guess I will decide when the time comes. Pics are of the progress it has seen since being in the shop, hope to have more updated ones this week some time. Having my brother keeping track of things since I'm currently in Iraq(this place sucks). More to come.

Hey, i have been looking into swapping a lsx motor into my thirdgen. Unlike most i would like to swap the intake and run a carb on it. Since doing this i was considering using my 700r4 (built of course). This would be a budget build so i have been looking mainly at the lq4 6.0l engine because they seem to be had very cheap at local yards.

Now my first question is what is the deal with the crank length and adaptor situations on the lq4s?
Does the early 6.0's use a normal crank that can bolt up to a 700r4 without adaptors?

How much improvement is the higher compression of swapping heads verses the stock compression? This motor would get either the edelbrock rpm or victor intake with conversion box, engine swap longtubes, a better cam (like a 232/234 or something) and possibly 150 shot. I was thinking the lower compression would help with the nitrous on pump fuel...obvious its a way overkill but i dont really want to pull the bottom end apart or heads off, cause the last "budget rebuild" ended up costing a fortune.

I dont know much about the lsx motors but i am use to a "slightly" modified:lmao: pontiac 400 so im guessing its not going to have the low end torque im use to but will have more high rpm pull.

I guess I'll be joining in this madness, I just bought an LQ4. It's from an '01, with 135,000 miles on it. I'm not going to just install it, however. Expect to see pics of trying to make the truck oilpan work, even if it means some cutting and welding. Also expect to see a head swap for more compression, although not great-flowing heads just yet. I'm at high altitude, so milled LS1 heads will give me a full ratio of static compression. I am flip-flopping on cam choice, but I will be changing the cam. Most definitely something that can pull 6500 rpm, while being able to pass a tailpipe sniffer. And since the heads will be off, I'l have a chance to drill those oil drain holes into the plastic lifter guides. I assume the truck pan is too deep, but if it doesn't clear the crossmember, I'll be looking at the crossmember as subject to change. A tubular aftermarket one would be sweet, and may come eventually, but will not be part of the initial build. So I may notch, then reinforce the stock crossmember if necessary. Assuming the oil pan must come off, I'll be installing ARP rod bolts so I can turn it 6500 rpm instead of stopping at 6000. The engine is being shipped, it should be here by Friday night, so pics after then.

well ive decided im going to sell my 82 trans am to fund putting my 86 car back together! the wife said if you sell it you can buy the ls based motor...

well ive decided im going to sell my 82 trans am to fund putting my 86 car back together! the wife said if you sell it you can buy the ls based motor for your 86 car anyway a little run down. my 86 was my first car i got it the day i got my drivers permit when i was 16! ive had a lot of good memories in it and always heard of people saying they wish they kept a certian car they had blah blah and well i knew id keep this one forever. with 204k on the clock she was mine with the old tired carbed 305 700r4 and 2.73 open diff. anyway i ran it till 217k and the motor crapped out i rebuilt it and stuck it back in and about 2k later the trans went to i swaped in a th350 and a diff cam in the motor. the car never legaly saw the road with this setup. i had by this time bought my 82 which already had a built th350 and body and interior was all there so i stole my motor and threw it in the 82 where its been for about 2yrs or so. the 86 has been sitting at my moms house in the driveway then in the back yard and now in a 10x30 storage unit with no interior motor or trans. ive always wanted a lsx t56 swap but after getting the speed bug and having a nice built stalled auto car thats what im gona stick with alot of the reason is thats what it was setup for and i dont want to butcher the body. and keep it as original looking inside and out as possible mainly for the memories it wil not have the hedious red carpet and red/grey seats though lol. anyway the more ive learned over the years and all i have faith in finaly finishing this project given it will be a complete diffrent way than i had wanted but i believe i will be happy! it will be getting a 8pt subframe connectors lcarbs a jegster tq arm and ill setup the original 10-bolt with some 3.42s or 3.23s with a posi.(will not last though) ive got everything needed for the interior except carpet and gotta patch the ds floor pan (damn t-tops) everything will be hand fabricated as in hot/cold pipes im debating on what turbo to use but dont wanna break the bank so id like to keep it $700 or less if bought new. ill be running the th350 and 9.5in 3500 stall from my 82 with a b&m mega shifter. car will have no a/c or heat but will keep a stereo and the power windows it will be driven often and may swap for a 4l60 or 80e someday for the od but for the inital build it will be done with as much as i already have. i will need a ls1/ls6 intake z06 or boost cam would like to run atleast 10lbs on 93octaine. id even like to keep the original 15s on for everyday use ive got a bunch of 3.5in pipe laying around so ill build a single 3.5in exhaust with a magnaflow in stock location with a single tucked up tail pipe. i was planing on running high 10s in the 82 with my 383 build but would need vacume assist for brakes and wouldnt drive as nice as this. anyway sorry for the long post but if i could get as much input as i can that would be great! my cousin and i will paint it the original white also.

I finally touched the LS1/T56 project again last night! First time since late May.

Did some more on the wiring. Current issue is finding a battery connection for the fuse/relay box, chassis power, and HVAC fan. I have the 4th gen battery cable that goes to the alternator and fuse/relay box, but I'm using an aftermarket swap fuse/relay box that doesn't have a battery cable lug, just a 10-gauge wire. The chassis & HVAC fan power came from the starter battery lug on the '82, which the LS1 harness doesn't have. I'm hoping to find a proper lug or buss bar this morning so I can continue.

After that it's hooking up the temp gauge sender wire, mounting the HVAC box back in, finishing the radiator fans wiring (ground wires), figuring out how to mount the PCM in the passenger compartment, wiring the aftermarket gauge cluster, and a whole bunch of other little things. . .

Here in TX we have a two speed dyno test (25 and 15). Here are my results:

25 mph - Standard - Current Reading - Result

HC(PPM) - 144 - 143 - PASS

CO(%) - .92 - .91 - PASS

CO2(%) - 13.5 (not judged)

O2(%) - 1.5 (not judged)

NOx(ppm) - 1014 - 1908 - FAIL

DILUTION - >6 - 14.4

15 mph - Standard - Current Reading - Result

HC(PPM) - 148 - 153 - FAIL

CO(%) - .83 - .94 - FAIL

CO2(%) - 13.4 (not judged)

O2(%) - 1.6 (not judged)

NOx(ppm) - 1110 - 1922 - FAIL

DILUTION - >6 - 14.3

My setup is a 2001 LS1 (LS6 intake) w/4L60e with a custom exhaust that has a non-AIR high-flow CAT.

So...huge NOx was the main culprit. I had ARD put on a "high-flow" cat back when I had the exhaust done, but I'm not saying that's not the problem. Could they have used a crappy CAT (maybe too small)? I don't have AIR lines - so I ran the car for 15 minutes before waiting (idling) at the inspection place for about 15 minutes. Temp looked to be up there.

I looked for vacuum leaks and wasn't able to find any using some carb cleaner. When I created a vacuum leak, the car definitely idled higher - so I don't think I've got a large vacuum leak - as I wouldn't have seen a big difference there. I'm going to remove any added vacuum lines today and see if it affects anything.

Any other ideas? Could old gas cause this big of a problem (2 months)?

Thanks for any and all help. I'm really close to calling it quits.
