Hobart of Lincoln?

I have been shopping for a 110 volt Mig for awhile, and have narrowed it down to either the Lincoln Weld-Pak 3200 HD or the Hobart Handler 135.

Both machines have nearly identical specs.

The Lincoln is $437- at Home Depot and the Hobart is $449- from Northern Tool.

What to do?

Eric

I searched the web for about 2 weeks looking for info on the Miller 135, Lincoln 135, and the Hobart 135. I decided on the Lincoln 135. Although all the deciding factors are arguable, I chose this one b/c it was advertised to be able to weld 5/16" steel. So far I have welded 1/4" with no problem at all. Cost was another issue. The Lincoln ended up the cheapest. This was due to the fact I went to Lowe's and bought it, a 10# roll of wire, and 2 wire brushes for $520.

Dude i picked up a hobart handler 135 dirt cheap for 380 its reconditioned but has the same warranty as a brand new one. I did 1/4 inch no problem and absolutely love it. Plus i looked at the lincolns and you had to buy the regulators and stuff for the shielding gas about 120 bucks the hobart came with the hoses and regulators all i had to do was buy a cylinder. I like lincolns i use those at the shop so does aquaf-body casue were at the same place but i really like the hobart. Good quality machine. Ever think of miller?? Its actaully the same company that makes hobart i think they just jack the price up on the millers. You can go to hobartwelders.com and go to weld talk. Its a whole message board for welders most of us are hobartians but theres some good info on there

i never liked the hobarts, but only used a few, i liked all the millers and lincolns i've sued. there is several sizes of 110v welders and i'm not 100% sure what ones i used of each make. get the highest rated one you can find. all i have at home are lincolsn, at work it's millers. if i were buying new miller is where i'd go.

Never did like lincoln's feed set ups, always seem to jam, I love the millers. My .02 cents.

Hey Irocbirdbuilder- did you get the factory recon Hobart at Harbor Frieght? They have them locally for that amount.

The Linclon I am considering comes WITH the gas setup, the less expensive Mig-Pak 100 for $299 does not, and by the time you add the gas rig it's near the price of the Mig Pak 3200 HD and is slightly less amps.

From my posting on this and another board, I haven't found anyone who has had a problem with either machine other than a personal preference- the Hobart's warranty is slightly better and if I buy it from Northern Tool I get a free cart whereas I'd have to buy it separately for the Linclon.

Done alot of welding.

I find the Hobart machines rather troublesome... Flux freeze, burnt tips. I've never welded with a Lincoln though. I've used all types of Miller machines, they are truly reliable. They are a good welder for anyone who wants one that will be trouble free. Just an opinion of use though.

I got the Lincoln weld pak 3200 hd from homedepot for $463.xx after taxes. for the price and avliablity it is great. ive done bunch of exuast work, ive welded very thin metal, ive done 1/4 thick stuff with no problems. hell i know i can get away with doin 1/2'' with out a problem or penetration problems either.

ut if i had more money i would have bought a Miller, not just becuz my last name is Miller but becuz thats what ive learned on and any other welder ive used just doesnt give the same results and has differnt settings , when the Miller is pretty damn easy to set up, use and get great results.

ive used Hobart, lincoln, miller, some cheapass brand name one, but in the end i still love the Miller machines. if i had the money and the power access in my garage id have nothing but Miller machines in there (mig, tig, arc, etc.)

but for my welder right now i still need to buy the bottle and gas so i can switch back to the regualr wire and not this crappy flux core stuff.
