Does it really need to be stronger? Unless you’re making 9 second wheels up passes I kind of doubt it, but that same stronger also = lighter, less work, uses fewer materials and leaves more room for other stuff.
something like this?

The right side of the pic where the driver side bolts to the framerail and how it tucks up instead of hanging down?I know you are not a fan of my crossmember 83 Crossfire TA, just trying to give a visual to help others understand you better.HTH

the top two pics of it installed can be seen in my post when I made it...not the greatest...

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/fa...6-gen-1-a.html (LS1 T56 to Gen 1 SBC crossmember with clearance for LT's...part II)

I have to get new pics of it painted and installed with the torque arm in place...

I chose to paint it for now in case I have to modify it once I get around to making the y pipe for the 2210's, once I am satisfied with how it fits with everything installed I will get it powdercoated.

Nice job on yours BTW, really really nice.

I put up some pictures of my T56 LT crossmember with my torque arm mount today. Still need powder coating but other then that it is complete. I have pleanty of room for my 3" exhaust.

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/fa...ver-state.html (1982 Z28 Silver State project)

Granted I had to build new sections of the frame rails but there were multiple reasons for that.

buy a "how to" book off ebay, for $20, an go to home depot and grab one for $200. Practice and folllow what the book says, After a while, you can start making your own exhuasts, hangars, x-members and so on. It really isn't that hard. It just seems daunting at first.

Back on Topic:

Doesn't it seem strange that no company sells a nice x-member for LTs on our cars? I mean, geez there are all kinda things out there, and no one can even like make a do-it-yourself kit that requires u to weld it all up. Seems kinda wierd. I mean these are american cars that people like to race and they have been around for a good while now. Now a single LT crossmember?????

Well, I just got my muffelx Y pipe and 4" cat-back. I am going to have to notch the crap outta my spohn x-member, and dimple the pipes pretty good. Just happy to get the car to shut finally.

Good luck with that x-member. Hope that some company wakes up and starts making something people want.

Nice looking fabrication!

You dont have to custom-fab yourself a LT crossmember if you don't really want to, since Andris Skulte has already done it for you. I've got one on my own car, actually. http://www.skulte.com

It doesn't hook to the Spohn crossmember, but the clearance is spectacular. I've converted away from the Spohn torque arm and into a decoupled torque arm for maximum acceleration and braking traction, but that's covered on another thread on this board. I just wanted to let you know that the LT solution is now available for all of us regardless of our welding capabilities.

Yeah, if skule got in cohutes with spohn to make a limited production of the skule x-member with mounts for the spohn TA, now THAT would be a perfect world. I would buy it in a second. But since it doesn't exist, I am going to be nothcing my spohn piece and dimpling my pipes.

first off thats a NICE cross member. Does any one know how far you need to move the tranny mount bolt holes for a T56? Cause i am about to do a T56 swap in my car and plan on makeing a crossmember.

I dont know how far of fthe hole is compared to the T5 or 700r4. If your custom making one then my only suggestion is to just install the tranny at its proper height and then secure it with a jack or two. Then start fabricating.

Re: custom long tube T56 crossmember done....

looks sweet!! i need to do the same thing. only thing i would change is turn the angle up to the frame rails, so that they are not sticking down, really great job none the less.
