Body Kit Idea - Nascar Replica

I was looking at some nascar cars, you know with the Monte Carlo design or w/e. I was thinking, would it be possible to cut the front fascia/bumper and weld on some metal and then some rubber and have the whole peice sit <= 1" off the ground? also extending the side skirts down to about the height. I am not worried bout legal ness, and yes this is for a street car.

Could something like this be feasible? and as far as "what if i get in an accident". Haha my answer is "i dont and i wont". and as far as curbs and hills, that is why there would be a bit of some bendible/soft plastic rubber.

The intent is a sort of nascar replica. opinions???

just get some ground effects and throw a nice paint job on it and slap some company stickers on there.. then get a set of black 15x9's and 15x10's and run 295 rears and 275 fronts

Re: Body Kit Idea - Nacar Replica

that monte carlo is sweet! that's not factory, is it?

I would say on a car like a camaro or firebird, less than 3" of clearnace would be nothing but headaches. Pulling in and out of lots of parking areas would be impossible. Part of the reason is that there is so much body work in front of the front tires. You would tear pieces off in no time. I won't even put lowering springs in my car for this reason. If you decide to do something, though, please post pics...I'd be interested in seeing what you come up with.

Don't destroy a thirdgen to make Nascar crap, destroy any newer model vehicle instead. If you want a Nascar, start with something like bilms Monte Carlo, or another actual car that Nascar styled theirs after, it would be easier and probably look much better. Good luck anyhow though.

Re: Body Kit Idea - Nacar Replica

I am already planning on something like this, for hill climb/time trial racing, i got the nose piece from five star bodies.

Everyone likes different things, dont get angry when they want to do something that you dont want to see or like, thats what makes some cars unique.

http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2922...45512947bIRQIF
its a 4th gen but similar to your idea.

That looks pretty good. I think I, personally, would go with a few less rivets that stand out. That's not a street car, either, is it? That makes a difference in the approach you take on the looks (again, in my opinion).

Just think of it this way, we can do what we want to our cars, even though it may lower the value and you think it looks like crap, but we like it, so the value of yours will go up. some of us dont drive garage queens

Re: Body Kit Idea - Nacar Replica

more likely get stiffer gfx like off an older camaro (82-84) and drop some lowering srpings on your car and set up a slight rake. Put bigger slightly bigger tires on the rear than the front and itll make the car "lean" foward a bit and give the car a nice mean look. the lowering springs should give the appaerance you want and the older ones are much harder. my friend hit the side on a CVS and his just got a small dent that he was able to pop out. They wont get as beat up as newer ones.

Re: Body Kit Idea - Nacar Replica

Thats the nose i put on mine, except i have cut out the headlight holes and put some lexan over it and the huge hole for cooling. the 2 piece doesnt look bad at all painted, it took some heavy modification to get the fenders to bolt to it and line up right(had to cut the bottom curved part off the fenders and weld a flat piece to the bottom of them to bolt to the bottom part, and do some bending of the curve on the top of the fender, and heat up the top corners of the plastic bumper with a small torch and bend them to fit exact. It was ALOT of work, but it turned out good and noone else has one like me, so it makes me happy.

If all you want is to keep air from under the body, try this:

Very Nice, simple but it works, one thing i have learned though is that our cars pull air from the bottom somewhat to help cooling, so too much skirting on the front can be bad.

The skirting in that picture forces air towards the radiator- it's not in front of it.

yeah i saw that after i posted, my bad, i noticed a fairly significant temp change with the skirting being alot lower to the ground at lower speeds ( in town driving about 15-30mph) i had to trim a little because of this but since the nose i fitted to mine has a bigger slant to it than the stock nose, it forces the front end closer to the ground at highway speeds which is the effect i was going for in the first place, and i havent seen cooling issues with it on the highway or on track.

Re: Body Kit Idea - Nascar Replica

I've always wanted to make my camaro look like a true iroc racing car ever since I had a model of one as a little kid.
I think just adding the fat black or chrome steel wheels and tires and lowering it a bit would achieve much of the look, plus functional louvers on the hood.

There are some new 1:24 scale models that show how great the look can be!

Re: Body Kit Idea - Nascar Replica

after thinking i will keep my trans am, i really hate the styling of them, i wouldnt mind something different. i would love to make a near replica if possible....but the firebirds are kinda square...so i guess i would have to do it on the camaro.

since the camaros nose is fairly rounded, couldnt i cut the bumper and weld in sheet metal and go from there?
