Its because this body was was meant for RC and the wheelbase and track with of most 1/10th scale cars is off compared to the real things. So the bodies have to be altered to both look right and fit a 1/10th scale platform. Its a little larger, but the thirdgens have decent front/rear overhang anyways.

I want one of these for my RC car, a Tamiya TT01, but the specs say it's 230mm wide, which is over an inch too wide. It's not actual 1/10 scale I think.
