Just got finished with this last night. Had to build a new trans crossmember as I'm putting in Hawk's long tube headers with the rebuild this time. I didn't like the way the Hawk's y-pipe went under the factory crossmember so I made a new one to keep from losing ground clearance.
Made it out of a piece of 1/4" plate and 1"x1" tubing for the actual trans mount plate, the 2 "humps" are cut from 1/4" x 5" angle, and the 2 frame plates are made from 1/4" cold roll steel. Ended up taking a lot longer to make than I expected or planned, but it turned out well.
And the weld on the left, it's just the shadows, it doesn't really look that bad
I like that Skulte design. It puts the angle iron ends pointing upwards away from the pipes but the angle has been flattened out to fit better. I may incorporate that design in my new crossmember. Dual 4" pipes don't leave a lot of room. My pipes currently run under a home made crossmember but I don't like the design and will redo it later this winter when I yank the tranny out.
Nice. Good job. Reminds me of the Skulte designd one.
that's the one I remembered seeing. I couldn't remember who's design it was though. The last one I made was out of 1"x3" rect. tubing like his, but I didn't have any this time around.
The one the OP posted doesn't look near as strong as the other ones . Those ones are boxed, although the last one only partially. The first one is just flat stock. I don't know if it's strong enough or not, but it's not as strong as the others.
