I haven't seen much if anything on fabricated track bars. I like the BMR design ALOT especially how it deals with the over the axle pipe. Any thoughts on pitfalls of trying to design one? Strength concerns? What does the track bar really do. I know what the panhard rods purpose is.

the panhard bar is the track bar the additional bar that the fbodys have is to disperse the load from that one point so when you go hard into a corner all that force isn't on that one mounting point of the lower bar. Im working on desiging a upper panhard bar this week when im done im gona post the drawings for all to enjoy

i bought the one that UMI makes, pretty much the same thing as BMR's.

Like said above, the upper panhard support reinforces the rear chassis and the panhard mount. Without it, with cornering loads, all the forces would be directed to that single mount on the passenger side, and it would eventually tear off the car.

The bar itself needs to be pretty strong, if you have a tubing bender and a welded and some fab skills im sure you can make your own. I haven't personally seen and home fab one on here yet.

I appreciate both your replies, I wasn't questioning what it does or why it's needed. I'm not looking to get rid of it, I was just trying to duplicate in a DIY what the BMR gives you (CLEARANCE!) for the exhaust. Thank you though for explaining more about the function of it, I never stopped to think of really, what does it do?

lilnebel, I'll look for those drawings I know the BMR piece requires brackets to relocate the lower mount, those are tit to design and fab. I'm looking forward to a DIY piece and when I do one I'll be sure to post pics.

I finally got around to designing the upper panhard bar it does get relocated my theory is that if someone designed it like that there is a good reason so why not do the same and the reason is it does give you alot more room if you want to run a large dual exhaust. here is a pic you can email me for the solidworks files lilnebel@yahoo.com

I don't think it will, but is there any chance the Solidworks file will work with Inventor? If so, I would to have a copy of it.

If you don't mind me asking, what school are you at? I'll be going to MSOE next fall and I can't wait! It's going to be nice to have all those programs with me to mess with whenever I want.

IIRC the upper bar has to drop or slant down right after the driverside body mount or it will hit the fuel tank. Other than that its looking good

I think that solidworks screenshot is slanting, just hard to tell because of the size BUT, looking at it there appears to be an angle like the one you're saying is required. I'd like to get the solidworks file so I can take a look at it myself.

Im gona make this bar myslef this week and test fit it on saturday ill let you know how it goes i did change the design a little to clear the gas tank and in the solidworks drawing the lower PH bard is slanted and that is how its suposed to be

lilnebel,I guess its cool you don't want to give the file out. Not sure why but your the author so cool. Try and post pics if you can, I'm sure we'd all learn a bit.

I never said i wasn't going to give the file out i just want to make sure it works first im all for designing parts and posting a working model because to buy these parts can total thousands and they can be built for a lot less

I go to UW-Stout i also applied to MSOE and got in but heard from other people it is a strict school and even tho they are one of the best schools for engeneering i also wanted to experience college life when you go there see if they have a SAE team like Formula or Mini Baja its a great way to learn a lot and do you live colse to millwaukee if so do you ever cruise HWY 100?

lilnebel, sorry man, that was what I gathered from your msg. Whatever your reasons or etc is cool, like I said its your file and you're the author. I think from what I see so far is great. Me wanting to have a look at the solidworks file now was so I could compare to what I had started to gather pieces for to make my own. I wasn't using cad or anything, just going to have pieces tacked together for a rough layout. Keep us posted!!

Yeah they have the Formula and Mini Baja teams. I would prefer to do the Formula car, and I would love to be the one that races it. I went there a couple weeks ago for their shadow day and was following around a freshman. He said he is taking the more advanced classes atm because he tested out of the lower stuff. That was a major confidence booster because I knew what they were talking about and going over in his classes.

I'm in Oak Creek, but no, I never really cruise Hwy 100. I heard it's mostly kids in crappy 4-bangers now days.

There are alot of 4-bangers. It's not even worth going. There are plenty of cops around and i've heard there is a cop in a corvette you have to watch out for.

i go almost every weekend im home and there are a lot of four bangers but there are a lot of 4th gen camaros and birds. ive cruised it for 3 years and never seen a cop in corvette the only undercover cop ever down there was one in a charger with 20's on it.
