Would it be ok to cut this out? X marks the spot and this would be on both sides of the car. Im thinking of doing something here. once im done with what i want to do i would support around my mod to get that a little stronger again. But just wondering if it would be ok. I dont want to car to fall apart LOL. thanks

That's the radiator support. If you cut it out, you will need to do some pretty serious fabrication to get proper structural integrituy back into the front of the car, not to mention securing the radiator.
It seems to me like it would be way more trouble than it would be worth, but you are rather vauge on what you plan to do. What are you trying to accomplish?

I took some pictures of a little bit more detail. There is a radiator support already connected to the frame of the car. i would re-enforce that a little bit more. see pictures. that would take care of the radiator for sure. Now once im done doing my "secret mod" i would build around that. connect the body of the car back to the radiator support like it was before i cut it out. does this make a little bit more sense?

Yes it does. I guess it just depends on your fab skills and what tools and materials you have available. If you have the means to do it, then I say go for it. I want to see it when it is done. Don't worry, you can photoshop out the "secret mod"!

I'm rookie when it comes to this fab stuff but if there is a will there is a way! Thanks zlathim!! I just needed to hear it from someone that it's ok to takle this. I do have a good welder, grinder. Pretty much all I really need. Don't worry you will be the first to see what the "secret" mod is. Let's just say that no one has done this at all but it has been thought of. Should have results this weekend
So you just wanted anyone at all at random on the internet to tell you it's okay to hack your car in that manner? And that was enough to make you feel good about doing it? Where do you plan to add additional bracing to make up for the loss of that structure? I'd suggest welding a brace that connects the top corner of the newly shortened radiator support to the frame rail near the steering gear. I'd suggest some decent sized angle iron.
Maybe you should post up your "secret mod" and get feedback on how well it would work before cutting up your car. It would suck to find out you overlooked something and hacked your car for nothing. If it hasn't been done yet (and just about everything has been done to these cars by now), maybe there's a reason it hasn't been done.

I think it's an infinitely dumb idea, personally. Not only does that piece tie into your radiator support, it also ties in your inner fenders, which are tied into your strut towers, which supports your whole front suspension.
Not only that, but that whole frame helps support your headlight bar as well as your outer fenders.
But hey, go ahead and hack away. When you front wheels collapse, don't say you weren't warned. Hacking away at structural parts isn't something you just decide to do one day because you have some skills with a grinder and a welder.
Dont you think i spent time looking under my hood and thinking hard about it. I spent TO MUCH money on this car to mess it up now. Things are going really smooth right now. A lot better than i expected. I was able to get one side done. Look at the picture. Plus a nice strut tower brace should also help
Are you notching it for a different headlight assembly? There's still some material there atleast. Can you fit what you're looking to do and box it in a little lower to reinforce it?

Yes im putting in a different head light. The problem is the head light is pretty thick and it sits flush with the radiator support. there is not much i can do about that. but i can put some square tubing behind it. this of course would be hidden. but the support going from fender to to fender is just sheet metal folded into a square and its not really welded together just some tacks from factory.
I think The question you first asked/showed and what you did were TOTALLY different..What you have now dosent look too bad. It looks like you still have alot of the integrity left in the rad support..still may need some sort of brace though..Good luck
The first picture i showed was worst case but after i got the head light where i wanted it, it didnt look that bad after all. I havent worked on it lately. i got one head light in and it looks real sweet. cant wait to show you guys.

I'd like to see also. I noticed a different than factory headlight in the first pic...is that what you're using? I'm guessing its something different than that..

. in case you haven't noticed im new to this site so im still learning how to use everything on here, your sarcasm was unnecessary
Maybe so. I don't sugar coat things. Life is what it is. You may not like my attitide some times, but I certainly get my point across & am rarely misunderstood.
TGO forum basics are no different than all other Forums. Go to the member Profile & you can look through THEIR posts. Not even a whole website specific search. You can narrow things down to just one person on ANY forum site I've seen.
well i dont know about you but this is my first fourm i dint find the need to be on a whole bunch of them i decided to come on here to learn more about iur cars and meet some good people. and imo there is no need to state your opinium in a rude manor, if some one ask for help you should do it in a respectful manor, im sure you would want the same if you asked for help and were un sure of something instead of someone basicly saying your an idiot its easy ect ect

I wasn't rude. But tell you what....Next time I'll just go my way, let others help & offer no more help. That better?
Boy....That was HARD to find! thats wasnt rude? all i asked for was the link, and you know what if your just going to be sarcastic about things then like you said let some one else help. i like this is how new members are treated who ask for help.

Be grateful I even showed you, instead of telling you it existed.
It wasn't hard to find, which made your lack of looking obvious.
Like I've said before....People don't have to like my style of communication, but they can't deny that I get my point across.
Point is...You got the info you wanted. Let's stop littering this thread. If wanna bash me some more? Feel free to in PMs. People don't wanna read "junk" on Forums.
well this thread has been side tracked pretty bad, all over captain kidds butt hurt feelings. you have to take sarcasm from us with a grain of salt, otherwise shut up and leave. 6 post's complaining about it is just annoying and unproductive.
on that note,
Ramair21, get back to work, and finish your classified mod so we can see it already!
