well I have an earlier style Z28 hood and I have an idea that i think would work very well and keep it safe when raining. It would basically be like a crossfire hood, with the flaps that open, except instead of being actuated at WOT the sections behine the inserts are cut out and a thin stip of weater stripping goes around the perimiter of the hole, the I will rig up some sort of latch system on the underside of the hood so I can basically take them out in a matter of seconds and the most difficult part would be opening the hood. That way, you only get the extra air when you need it and there is no threat to your electricals when its raining because you have no gaping holes in your hood or insecure covers. i am also going to make a custom air cleaner with ducts that draw air strait from the holes that can be swapped for when I'm at the track or whatever. so what do you think? my car and hood style I was talking about.

i have an 84 hood as well and i thought of something like that before.

it really wouldnt be that hard, theres about two nuts on each of them. there is also 2 open sections on each flap, you could keep it as that or just cut out each section to have each flap one hole.

i'd like to see this, if it turns out well i might even do it on my hood while i have it

ah i just thought of one possible way of locking them. you keep the old flaps. i have no pictures of how to do this so i'll try my best with words.

hold your index fingers together side by side. imagine one is the flap. next to/between them is the open hole. the other finger is a smaller length bar. side by side it will slide out. turn the one finger (the metal bar) vertical which would possibly lock the flap there
