This is actually on a 4th gen using the wolfe cage. Think its safe enough to weld in the floor plates without dropping the tank out? Fuel lines are main concern since they are plastic and fearing they could melt but not sure if they are really close to the floor back there.

You might want to try that in a 4th gen board or LS1Tech. As far as I know all of the third gen lines are metal. Also (I'm not soliciting professional advice, this may cause you or others to be burned, maimed, or killed), if you can pull them from the body a bit maybe you can put a wet rag around them?
I should add that there was a thread on here a while ago where someone light a carpet fire and completely destroyed their interior while welding on subframe connectors.

JB weld......jk. Don't chance starting your car on fire. I think a person would be able to be more focused on good welds without the idea in the back of their mind of their car going up in flames. Hopefully that makes sense. Just my 2 cents.

4th gens have plastic tanks lol why are we even discussing this?!? 3rd gens are metal and would be safer but ive heard of some nasty fire balls due to vapor from the tank while welding... i pulled mine to a safe 6-10ft from where i was welding after i pumped the full out. 3rd gen tanks are pretty light empty actually
id pull the tank, i did when i did mine... the 3rd gen tank is something like 1/2" from the trunk floor steel. my dad acutally cut a 8" line in his when cutting a door to get to the fuel pump lol he didnt realize it was that close.... that car scares me

Actually a full tank is less dangerous than an empty one as the vapors are the explosive bits
Assuming you used a cutoff wheel, how did you manage to cut 1/2" down into fuel lines? The point of small high speed tools is the extra control and precision. If you whack it 1/2" or 1/4" beyond what you're cutting you have no business with it

no he cut a 8" line into the top of the gastank. when i looked at mine the tank was maybe 1/4" from the floor pan. thats pretty close, u would figure it would be farther down. as far as him having no buisness with the tool, sometimes he scares me but in his defense the tank is pretty darn close to the floor and not knowing how close the tank is can be an easy mistake.
yea i know the vapor is the bad part but i wanted it empty so it would be easier to install back up... it was about half full which added quite a bit of weight.
