T-Top Storage from a 4th gen?

I have a 91 Camaro. I was curious if the 4th gen t-top storage would work with the 3rd gen tops. The kind of storage where they slide into groves at the bottom of the well under the hatch.

Re: T-Top Storage from a 4th gen?

Everything that I've read says that the 4th gen pieces wont work. Have I tried it? No, so I can't be 100% that this is true since I have done many other things that everyone else said can't be done.

If the tops will fit back there with the hatch closed you'd probably be better off fabbing up your own pieces. I would have done it a long time ago but I have a sub box in the well.

Re: T-Top Storage from a 4th gen?

I'm not too educated on the 4th gens, but if you're referring to the place holders on the back of the well, I think you can make them work. Its not direct fit but if you cut the 2 individual pieces and use them similar to "book end" on a bookshelf, it might work...

Re: T-Top Storage from a 4th gen?

Last time I checked, our tops were too wide to fit down into the well like the 4th gens. You are probably going to have to come up with a custom idea. I just built my sub box to fit below the upper shelf area, and use the stock holder.

YOu might be able to fit them rotated 90 degrees from how the 4th gens are, but they might hit the hatch, and you are back to creating custom mounts to hold the tops. And without being able to use the stock latching mechanism on the top to hold them in, like the 4th gen, it would probably be a pain.

I wonder if I took the sotrage system from the 4th gen, and just made it wider. like just used the sides... Or would it be just easier to make my own from scrach I wonder?

Re: T-Top Storage from a 4th gen?

I'll go into the junkyard and look at the back of the 4th gens and see if it can be fitted...

Thats sweet! looks like you will have one hell of a system! I like your t top holders. i was looking through the owners manual to my 90 IROC and it showed the way to store the t tops when diving was just like the 4th gen. i have been messing with 3rd gens for the last 10yrs and i have never seen any 4th gen style t top holders in the back of a third gen that were stock. So there may be a stock bracket thst fits in the hatch but i dont know... This will be a new quest, find the 3rd gen t top bracket... It's like the clit, we will find it and we will play with it!
