1982 trans am grills

The front grills on my 1982 trans am are busted out, has anyone custom fabbed anything to fit in there? I was thinking about using black plexi and just blocking the holes off, but I know our F-bodies are notorious for getting hot under the hood. I need some inspiration!

Re: 1982 trans am grills

i got some black universal aluminum mesh on ebay for $23 shipped. i made cardboard templates and cut out the grills. i'm in the middle of painting the car, so i might get some black door trim molding and make a border to give it a more finsihed look.

Re: 1982 trans am grills

That does look pretty sharp. I wonder if any hardware stores (I.e. Lowes or Home Depot) carry anything like that?

Re: 1982 trans am grills

thanks! idk all of the mesh i found in the stores was way more expensive...$45+. i figured retail stores prob jack up all the prices so i checked ebay. the seller had good feedback so i bought it. very pleased with the quality. i had enough for both grills and a grill for my hood scoop. even had enough to make a grill for my buddy's power bulge hood. and i still have a decent amount left over!

Re: 1982 trans am grills

Do you remember the name of the seler on E-bay? I looked over there and found like a billion people selling mesh. Yours looks good and you're happy with it so I would like to buy from someone I've heard good things about. Thanks, Mike.

Re: 1982 trans am grills

i trimmed off the lip that the stock grills bolted to, except for the 4 corner tabs. i painted the tabs black and used black zip ties. you can't even see them unless you get really close. and its nice and secure.

Re: 1982 trans am grills

That looks really good. I've thought about trying to find an 82-83 bumper to replace my wife's bumper on her 90. This is definately a cool idea and it looks very good.
