How many guys Moded there 3rd gens to ram air. with the Y intake set up
it was screaming for it!
would love to see them.. i did My 92 back in 93. and thinking there must be guys who have done the same thing.
useing the air box it came with.. making it pick up air from the back of the fog lights..running up into the K&M filters and into the Y..(the air box is still 1 piece)
yes it's dusty..been sitting for 7 years..

Hawks makes them but i got mine used, it could have been home made. I have tbi so i would need to get a hose or something but i also just got a 14x3 k&n on the board for a good price so i'll probably use that.
If you decide that you want to get rid of it, I'm interested in buying it.
Here check this out. I made it custom for the car as the crappy stock air intake wasn't working worth a crap. If I know what kind of intake you have I can fab one for you.

That isn't Ram Air, not even Cold Air.
All that does is increase the amount of hot under hood air an engine can breathe.
But with it open to the engine bay, it is still getting hot air.
Put a 90 degree turn down befoe the filter, go through the "battery tray" & put your filter underneath that tray, then you'll have TRUE cold air.
I wish I could do that. I have the punk a** V6 so I have the IAT sensor over where the old air box was. I thought about that but I have no room over on the old filter side.

Sure you can.....
Just extend the piping further, to put the filter down & under the tray. Wouldn't need to move the IAT. For that matter, the ECM doesn't care WHERE the IAT is. It only cares what the IAT reads. I moved mine from under the plenum out to just behind my MAF, by a good 2.5 feet difference.

I used to have my CAI in the same spot as the above LS1 3rd gen and I never had problem with water getting into the engine. But when I removed it, it was pretty dirty...
Mods so far: MSD Cap and rotor, MSD ignition coil, Accel 8.8mm ignition wires, Hooker Super Comp Shortie Headers, Flowmaster 3in catback, underdrive crank pulley, custom cold air intake, NOS wet 125 shot, air foil and a lead foot! no E/T's yet. ...TURBO COMING SOON...Other mods include keyless entry and remote start, and Sequential Turn Signals.
Are we sticking to EFI only? And who else has routed air in from where the high beam bulb should be? (Camaro)
This would work for a carb/TBI, or the aftermarket TBI body-style port injection systems. Would work great on 2 of the Camaro headlights & still give you 2 headlights to use. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SPE-717/?image=large
I am trying to figure out how to make a ram air setup using my ss hood. Im in the process of converting to carburated too so Im not really sure which direction I will take.

I had ram air boxes fabbed up that look just like the hawks version. Really surprising how much of a difference that made with all the restrictions removed.
I've been working on modeling the ram air boxes, but with a twist. I'm not ready to disclose that yet...
filters are located in the hood scoops... they are old K&Ns. i wanted a cleaner look than my old setup. the ram air is made of aluminum and seals against the hood when closed with weatherstripping. so it sucks cold air from the outside and at around 45-55mph it then begins to be forced in for the ram air effect.
i was always jealous that the camaros had the ability/room to have ram air.
Did you get that off ebay?? If so, you outbid me and now you won't be using it????

LOL Sorry, I planned on using it and ripped out all of the plastic pieces but then got a good deal from a member for a k&n filter and xstream lid
heres mine, i kno its a firebird but i kno u love it
I know its an old post..but do you have a pic of what you did with your airfilter..I am doing the same thing but was still deciding what filter to use.. thanks
umm i used a universal K&N rectangle filter... i think it was 4-5"x12-16" and it was about 1" thick. i tucked it up into my ram air hood scoops. so the filters are actually located in the hood, between the outside grill and the inside fiberglass hole that was cut.
This is what I have now, just double what I have seen on here so far.
I believe this worked much better, it "rammed" way more....LMAO
