wrecked parts car

Ok first off I have a 92 I cant seem to get a tittle for. I was looking in a classifieds paper and found a 86 z28 complete car with good title. (CHEAP) Problem is that the car has been wrecked and I belive there is some frame damage. Seeing how our cars are uni frame, is there any way I can take the entire frame and front clip off the 92 and put it on the 86? How much welding and fab work do yall belive this would call for, or would it work at all

p.s. this was also posted in the body section not sure where it belongs lol

Re: wrecked parts car

youd be better on having the frame repaired at a frame shop, then doing the rest of the body work yourself

Re: wrecked parts car

It would be soooo much easier to just swap the VIN tags.

I meant to take the VIN tag from the wrecked car with the title and swap it into the good car with no title and then register it. They're the same exact body. Who is going to know the difference? It wouldn't be registered as a salvage car as long as the wrecked car still has a clean title. 95% of the cars owned by the people on this board are mixed and matched from many different year models. My 91 Firebird is mostly an 89 GTA from all the parts swapped into/onto it.

i just wouldnt wanna give advice that might get the kid in trouble, what if a cop thinks the donor car was stolen, every time i get pulled over in my classic cars they check the vin and in my third gens i get hasseled all the time, but the fact remains switching vins is against the law, even if he doesnt get cought i wont advice him to break the law

you would be surprised...there is always that jerk dmv dude that will bust your chops & do a million point check.i failed inspection once(when ct still had that) for a high beam dash light.the sad part is,t worked fine...the jerk didnt realize a 80 malibu has the indicator offset to the right.so after failing me for that,i pointed that out & he said i dont care deal with it.
when swapping 3rd gen vins, make sure to get ALL the vin plates & stickers.theres i think 4or5.
my buddy is lucky,he has like 8 old jeeps...the vins on those are screwed on ,not riveted.so for the normal cost of one jeep he runs a bunch.just switches the vin before heading out
