The bolt in is easy part. The rest is explained by SEARCHING FOR THE THREADS THAT HAVE ALREADY COVERED THIS!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry (OK, not really) but I am tired of reading the same crap over & over & over, because of people's inability to use the search feature that TGO already provides!
Considering there's at least 10 years worth of archival material on TGO, just about anything that could be asked about third gens has been asked. Every now and then, something new does come up.
If you do ask the wrong questions, you will be corrected or steered in the right direction. Many people have far fetched ideas about something but have no idea exactly how difficult it would be to do.
A fourth gen diff swap is easy however it's not much stronger than what you already have. It'll have better brakes and has 28 spline axles compared to your 26 spline ones but you can easily upgrade your diff to be just as good as a fourth gens and not have to worry about the slightly wider width. Both diffs are equally weak with the tiny 7.5/7.625 ring and pinion.

If you actually got an answer from doing a search instead of just being told to use the search feature in your search results, it would be a lot easier to use.
Learn to use the search feature correctly & learn how to refine your searches, not just typing in the first thing that comes to mind & giving up & it works wonders.
Should we hold a class?
#1, if those were your results, I see lots of things that wouldn't show up in a GOOD search.
#2, I see treads that (most likely, I'm not gonna read them because I already know whats needed & don't care to relearn) contain the answers.
#3, I do believe there is a sticky that covers it!
