Yep, you're right! Goes to show how good my memory is! Yours looks great as well!

Thanks, both get the job done. Either one cost money/time, and a great improvement on the car. I get a ton of questions and compliments, or one of those "What are those black things next to the headlights?" Until I lift up the hood.

Re: headlight (high beam) ram air

Has anyone tried using the stock TPI intake that fits into the bumper. Their is a teck article on how to make that a ram air set up?

Re: headlight (high beam) ram air

Exactly, I've been playing with a way to use that ram air set up with a carb. That might work better and you would still be able to keep the hi beams and maybe one day convert to cooler looking head lights?

Re: headlight (high beam) ram air

here's what i did when i replaced the 2.8 V6 with a vortec headed 305 in my 86 Camaro:

i don't know what the stock baffle setup for the V6 looks like since everything below the stock filters was cut off when i got the car, but i opened up the grille and built a NASCAR style airbox that gets all the air that cools the radiator and feeds the carb out of coroplast. NO air from under the bumper is directed up thru the radiator or into the carb any more. this is a VERY effective ram air setup- the carb stays so cold even on hot days that water drips off the sides of the carb like a glass of ice water on a humid summer say and the fast idle cam on the choke actually engages when i go more than a few miles down the road. in fact, i taped off most of the grille and the car is cooled and the engine fed air from a small section at the bottom of the grille in an effort to get the engine to run in the area of 210 degrees for a little more efficiency and to make the car a little more aerodynamic. actually, i put another strip of tape below the last strip, so the openings are only half as big in this pic and it stays cool and feeds the carb plenty of cool air:

i know it looks kinda hokey, but the whole car looks kinda hokey.. i am, after all, using lawn edging, coroplast, furnace air return vents (on the hood- spiffy, eh?) and duct tape as aerodynamic devices.

regarding the original subject of this thread: the 5.0 Mustang guys made removing a headlight and putting a ram air tube there "cool" in the late 80's, then the ricers copied it about 10 years ago.. do we really want to copy something that Mustang and Honda guys did first, when we've got a more aerodynamic and cleaner looking factory engineered option available to us?

The "headlight removal for ram air" mod goes all the way back to the 80s (at least....it would not surprise me if it was even older than that) so don't try to suggest that the Mustang guys started it in the 80s.
