Need to build a Wooden Engine Cradle

Help. I'm picking my engine up on monday and need a engine cradle to transport the engine home. I would like to build a simple wood cradle using 4x4 , 2x4 and traditional lag bolts.

Does anyone have plans or dimensions to build one?

Re: Need to build a Wooden Engine Cradle

Is this going in the back of your truck?
If so, i'd just pile 2x4's under the engine mount brackets, and rest it on there. Then just strap it down if you like. It's 700lbs, sitting on it's engine mount brackets it's not going anywhere...

Re: Need to build a Wooden Engine Cradle

four 2x4 longer than the oil pan. two 2x4 wider than the oil pan

2 long ones on the floor. the 2 short ones across both ends. The last 2 long ones on top of the short ones. If they're just wide enough for the oil pan to fit into, the pan rails will sit on top of the top 2x4's. It would be 6" deep and fit the majority of oil pans.

I've had a 400 SBC sitting in a similar cradle for about 10 years.

As mentioned above, putting it inside an old tire can work also.
