Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
Starting to look like....well...something.
Lol
So for most part this is the foreground. I did want to express the reason a little more for out line as I was ask and hey...maybe others are like..."why"
So beyond habit...I am looking to achieve a feeling of focus and movement especially since its kinda a collage
collage style.
So with that being said...I don't want to over cover any one area yet till after I add in the other features also this is a way to focus on "focused" areas first and then distortes areas...
Hopefully by weekend this will have most of it layed in and easier to see what I'm trying to describe.
Although I'm tempted to start the outline for the driver side and kinda stay in the flow...especially with these short burst of time in between everything else.
Kinda hate that....I like just starting and finishing verse stop go stop go....lol
Thanks again for viewing!

Stunning. I know how hard it is to draw on paper but painting this stuff on? Nice job. I'd love to learn how to paint. Do you do any traditional/Digital Drawing?

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
OK guys...yesterday wasn't a day in my favor and I didn't get near car...I've learned not to when fusterated...lol
But today...I made a point to get some time in after feeling guilty from yesterday.
So tonight, I did first color and first dark tone on first section of pass side.
This I think will really help see why I like to outline first....
I'm not fan of pics cause I had to use flash and it always burns out color...but for most part the idea is there.
Only difference is, I actually like working on darker backgrounds then lighter backgrounds. This is why I deepened the image sort a speak.
Tomorrow is Friday...which is great cause I have nothing but an appointment on sat morning to do....
So I will def try to really have something cool to post by then.
Next step is to bring this section to life!
Thanks for viewing.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
I do, do traditional stuff still and if anything this is kinda an extention of it. I did dab in and out on digital but never really stuck with it.
For me pencil and pens (sharpies are a fav too).
In fact...even when using a reference image or photo or an original... I always draw it first.
For me its a crash course before I paint it...im self taught so I airbrush the same as I would draw...so I found if I can draw it, I'm pretty good about airbrushing it. Especially since its always a first time. Even with mural I'm doing now on TA...there are a lot of first on this so its exciting and nerve racking at the same time.
If ya wanted to learn, I would highy say go for it! A lot of the paint is process, so no matter the art ability you be amazed at what you cab do. Then a lot is thought or style...everyone is different and I see ppl all the time start and give up because they are trying to do someone else style (who may been doing it for 20yrs at that) and unfortunately the miss the true point.
So I def say go for it...and honestly world is different now...you can find all kinds of info online on it. Not like when I was a kid (I'm 31) it was like you were asking for someone's soul to get advice.
Lol
Sorry for the long reply!
Thanks again

I do pixel art recently, its more technical cause it has alot to do with placement and color which makes it alot of fun and a art workout.
Hopefully I'll find some time to try airbrushing, it seems like any art medium translates over somewhat. Like I never had sculpted but I can grab clay and do alot with it. Which is always nice to not start from scratch lol.
Art looks great with your added color man and the airborne skull is badass.
Heck even before the color it kinda had a bad *** spectral soldier look.
Keep it going!!!

Wait...you started painting people on the car? I've spent the last few days gearing up for a car meet in town and come back and see you've painted something else on the car. I swear your putting some raw emotion into it now and I like that. It's like a tribute to the US military branches. This car build jest keeps getting better and better.

Lmao...dude....that post just made my day!
"Arms Tribute"
Sure has turned into a direction of its own and hopefully with the next big surprise, a value and meaning!
For me...Its become a matter of, if you could do it once! What would you do?
So I'm def giving it an all!
I think you'll enjoy the driver side as much if not more.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
OK guys...
So to review, especially since I got pics up and its easier to explain.
At this point, as of today at least, the mural is about 1/2 done.
The mural is broken into 4 sections let's say and the rear wheel well will be the break between the two sections each side (rear quarter and door).
Above is section 1 and pass side is section two- 1 is pretty much done for this stage. 2 I got color and dark done ( as above 4steps, outline, color, dark, highlights)
Impressingly enough I'm actually making good time so I'll be trying to bump my 4hrs to maybe 5hrs this week.
Monday highlight section 2
Tues & Wednesday outline section 3 & 4
Thurs & Friday dark to highlights section 3 & 4
Saturday I'm gonna free up completely so that I have the day to just kinda go over and go threw anything needed paint wise.
Which will leave me just the fighting chicken logo.
And then.......
DONE
Lol
So let's say this week finished the paint job and following week to clear!
Needless to say, I'm pretty excited to be on the home stretch!

Lol...I understand...and kinda felt that coming. I don't really like showing the outline to things cause I always feel like its just a scribble mess only I can see...lol...so I felt slightly pressured to get something up to show what I see or what I'm dicribing.
Thanks again!
Hope ya like it once its all done

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
I've liked everything so far man. And don't get me wrong the "Ghost" as a artwork was REALLY good on its own I just wasn't seeing it mix with the modern feel of the car... Makes total sense now that its shaded and colored.

Lol...yes sir, don't get me wrong.
I love the black and white looks...which makes me great at monograms (where art and color are the same just toned and shaded)
But I think the ghostly look may come off little morbid for the cause...lmao...just teasing...and I was just joking in last post about being rushed. Although I am on a little bit of a time line.
But if you liked the ghost look you'll like the driver side were I'm using actual original photos for it...
Stay tuned

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
Hey guys started section 3 tonight and have some progress pics for you, still little more detail and coloring to do.
But you'll quickly notice the change in direction for this side and think once complete it'll be as if not more powerful then the pass side.
To re cap, for the mural I want to focus on the veterans so the pass side is geared towards the service and sacrifice of our Heroes. Where the driver side is geared towards the other side of their service and sacrifice... as they are family as well.
And here is mine: my grandfather who served in the navy for many years. This is probably one of the hardest features to paint because I have to be extremely accurate. So hopefully the final product serves him well.
Thanks again for viewing.

Great job. Always a cool update from you while I'm killing my last 15mins of work. Photos are so hard to do. Specially if people know em. Its nearly photo perfect. I'd love to see video of you painting it. I know nothing about airbrush process never even seen someone do it. As far as art goes. Sick thread! Props to you man.

Hey guys...I have been a little M.I.A
But to make up time,
Here is section 3 & 4 complete...bring the mural up to.....
(Drum roll)
Done!
Actually at this point...other then fighting chicken logo on...car is done and ready for clear.
Believe me I would and could just keep going but I'm gonna have to settle on a nice stopping point and with some recent changes, this to me feels like a good stopping point.
So we see how tomorrow works out for me, if I can get it in...cool...if not, no biggie.... can always add to it later! Great part about paint.
Anyway...kinda a short visit on 3rdGen but I'll stop back tonight.
Later

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
Hey guys,
Little update tonight!
WarBird is sitting in this wet stick shinny stuff!
Yup....cleared!
I applied the preliminary clear coat on it tonight, took about 5hrs and 2.5gallons to do it (which was like drop per drop all I had and just enough) but its done, done!
Outcome, ewww....despite the conditions and limitations, it came out nice. I would rate myself at 90% due to a few little issues and of course....freaking run! Actually 3 of them evil little things. Lmao
But all is well and nothing Mr.Miyagi Action can't fix.
So if you can stand to wait til Wednesday I should have it in the sun to bake!
Lol
Post pics then.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
Well WarBird is outside. Gonna wash it down and clean it up tomorrow. So I'll post some better pics but ya know in too excited not to post something now! Lol
Overall came out pretty good, I'll give it a good two weeks before I start actually polishing up.
Which should really look good.
Last two items on the list for exterior is lights, got to clear taillights and touch up front turns.
Install spoiler, side mirrors and then doorsweeps , stripping and emblems....just little stuff really.
So in conclusion, I feel good about the 90% mark and for a first time major garage build, not perfect but really close.
I'm happy and can't wait to get it running for a nice cruise.
Thank you for all of the support and encouragment along the way! Ya guys been great!

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
I have to say this has come out really nice, Better than I thought it would. With all that airbrushing you've done and how talented you are with it, I'm wondering what your plans for that big empty rear window is. No I'm not think you should air brush your window, But I just picked up a new toy (tool) an air eraser, for those who don't know its a media blaster that looks like an air brush to etch glass, For me I'm going to do the bird on my back glass, but I think with your air brush skills you could come up with something really cool to go with your theme. just something to think about.

Now that...is an extremely cool toy (tool) and the idea is very welcomed. I may have to give that some thought. I always liked the flora designs done on the old rods but never really seen anything else but that.
Back window! Def needs help...all glass does, the cleaning involved in this is just as much work as the rest of the car.
I know I will refinish the trim around the hatch but haven't thought of much else until now....lol...thanks for spinning the gears again...lol

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
Using an air eraser is a lot different than the way they did those old hot rods, They used to engrave with an engraver, But with the air eraser its the same as airbrushing like you did with your car before the color coat. Just go over the areas more to make the image more defined and deeper with the 3d effect look, I think you may be good at it because of how talented you are with the air brush, You can see some good examples on you tube and west coast customs did a few cars that really looked good, I just got mine today it was a gift and it came from harbor freight that cost around $30, with the abrasive, but not a lot of abrasive, I may start doing my car this week if weather permits.

Well I gave it a shot. Since my windshield needs to be replaced I choose it for my first job with the toy. I didn't really like it as much as I thought I would, It does really great fine lines but I couldn't get it to carve like I wanted, And making my own template wasn't that good , But here is the finished product.Attachment 276790

My face as I somehow missed the full shot pics... Man that looks awesome. Are you keeping the honeycomb rims or are you gonna do something closer to the theme?

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
The car is looking great. Since someone mentioned rims...After looking at the car I thought of an idea that would keep with the theme of things. If you are considering different ones I think it would be pretty cool to get ones that look like prop blades, or even turbine blades or something. I think if they were chrome it would throw off things a bit with how it's currently painted, but I'm sure you could get creative with it.

Dedicated the weekend to cleaning and assembling the car, I have to admit, it clean it extremely well, interior came out great
:0
Glass came out good although not perfect either.
Spoiler is on and I love it. Although I will be looking to get some small stabilizers for the ends...just in case if 200mph wind forces. Lmao.
