SS hood or cowl ind. hood

Which hood in everyone's opinion looks better on a third gen. and which one gives the most to making more power?

I like the Steel Cowl Induction Hood from www.goodmarkindustries.com because the underside of the hood has a round cut out to fit the air cleaner through. Also, I went to your website and noticed that you also wanted to use a Ram Air Box. You don't need a Ram Air Box if you're using a Cowl Hood because Cool air will be getting sucked in from the Base of the windshield or "Cowl Area" into your air cleaner.

i really love my cowl hood. i don't mean to affend anyone but, in my personal opinion i think the ss scoop is to wide and they just don't look right on our cars. they don't look bad, i just like the cowl better. thats just my opinion.

I second that. The SS hood only looks good to me if you've got a Z-28 spoiler out back.

I respect everyone's opinion about the SS or Cowl Hood.....Before I got my SS hood....I was thinkin about getting a Cowl Induction Hood. But....around here......either if it's a Camaro....a full size truck.....ALOT of people have cowl hoods on their vehicles. I wanted a hood that would definently stand out and make an impression on people when they see me driving down the road. I'm not saying that cowl hoods don't do the same...I'm just saying that alot of people run cowls around here....and I just wanted something different.....and still had a BAD *** look.....and...I'm prettty sure....the SS hood does it! But....both hoods look great on Camaro's!

does anyone have an SS hood on an 82-84 camaro? I think it would look cool with the sharper edges

SS

the only cowl i like is the one with the rounded (not squared edges).. like that dood with the silver camaro and red stripes on this board. and anything more than a 2 inch rise looks stupid to me.

SS all the way. although, i'm afraid that the hood might be one of those instances where its almost too popular and everybody including their grandma has one. but i would still stick with the SS. i am... someday... maybe... hopefully....

I would have to say, My vote goes for the traditional cowl hood, but the SS is damn good looking too.

I like the SS mmore than the cowl, but the SS would look better if they molded it after the factory one on 2002 SS camaros, I dont like the way it widens at the back of the hood and how its too narrow of an opening at the front.

Man I am impressed with all these but I still don't know. I still have a little time before tax season so thanks for all the input. I agree with the rounded edges and no more than 2" rise on the cowl, but I also agree that everyone around here has the cowl hood. Still on the fence. That is why I need to get that photoshop and put both on the car to see which looks better.

I'd have to say I like the cowl better b/c it actually is very funtional. Where the SS scoop sits on the hood is actually a low pressure area. On the other hand both the cowl area and the front of the hood (4th gen firebird ram air) are both high pressure areas. If you want air entering the engine more effectively, use phisics to your benifit.

Plus I think that a (max) 2" cowl hood looks sweet

I know that this is not cowl or SS, but I liked it better than both. I think I am one of like 4 people on the forum that have this hood. Doesn't seem very popular...

I like both styles, mine is a 5" cowl. but it would be even better if you could get the SS style in a 4" or 5" version.
