I am not sure about the Camaro, but If I remember right it should Blink 7 times... It is going through a systems/Diagnositic Check.
In some cars IF the bulb burns out, broken, or removed then THere is another light that comes on, not sure if tis the seatbelt light or the SES light...
Check your Owners Manual, usually there is a wealth of info in there about it.

That's not correct - at least for my 91 Bird. Owners manual says it should blink, and if it doesn't - or stays on blinking - that's when you have a problem. Please check your info, mrbestwrench, and for the applicable years....

wow. you're smart!
heres what you do... take that yeller wire hangin under da dash, lean over the wheel and touch it to power on the fuse box... be sure you're leaning far over the steering wheel when ya do dat... it helps if you just set your face on the center.

My steering wheel appears to have the center portion misaligned because I can see some yellowy plastic poking out from the black leather center portion of the wheel. Lately my INFL REST light has been coming on at random and staying on for a few minutes at a time and then going back off so I have a few questions:
1. Should I attempt to remove the center black portion of the wheel to re-align the portion with the yellowy plastic underneath? Will the airbag deploy if I attempt to do so?
2. What could cause that INFL REST light to just come on at random when the wheel has been misaligned for a long time now? Any ideas?
The recommended procedure for removing the Airbag is to disconnect the battery for 20 Min or so, before doing your work. This gives everything a chance to discharge so you don't have an accidental spark etc.
I recommend Reading the service manual for your car FIRST and use a certified mechanic for the process if you have any doubts.
Okay so theres all this talk about flashing and turning off. But how about if it flashes and then stays on for the time that i drive it? Is there an error code that will tell me why its on? I dont want an airbag to the face for stopping at a red light.
I just watched it this morning and it flashes 7 times. but after the 7th it flashes on and stays on for aslong as the key is in the ignition.

I have a 91 Z28 and it had the 'infl rest' light that stayed on, but it was only a missing 10a fuse for 'SIR'. I put in a 10a fuse and it now blinks and goes off as it should. Just a reminder to try checking the fuse first.
If the air bag light is on that just means the system is deactivated due to a malfunction. The air bag will not deploy in the event of an accident if the light is on.
