ok im making a post because i see alot of guys who have no clue about the lengths of th350's GM made,
there are three lengths of th350 2wd transmissions, ok
car th350 are the shortest 2wd ones made, around 28 11/16" actual measurement
this is same as thm200c
a car th350 is wqhat you would want for swapping in place of thm200c third gens and to keep your existing driveshaft
now...
theres a second th350 length GM made,
inb all the trucks, 69-up
theres th350 and it has 9" tail length,
so overall it is 3" longer than the 28 11/16" car version
now.. for you 700r4 third gen guys a truck th350 is what you want to find if you want to avoid the hassle of trying to find a thm200c third gen driveshaft
very common easy to find the truck 2wd th350 are
not 4x4 ones!
4x4 transmissions are a whole different thing, they dont even have a tailshaft housing and thats just the first difference
the third th350 length is with 12" tail
extremely long..,.
found in mid to late 70's station wagons and such, probably in a fw of the real big boat cars mid 70s too,. ive only seen one so far, its crazy looking, was in a 79 caprice wagon 305
but its useless for a third gen F body swap, but its interesting to know about, so you know to avoid it
tape measure is your best friend when shoppping around for a th350 for your swap,
measure just the tailshaft housing length,
if you have a th200c car then find a th350 with 6" tailshaft housing length
if you have a 700r4 car then find one with 9" housing length
that way no one has to change driveshafts
the thm200c driveshaft is NOT the lone shaft for th350 swaps people....
any th350 swap can VERY easily be done with a 700r4 driveshaft
or with the thm200c likewise,
just as easily
its simple
700r4 guys= find 2wd truck th350 tranny
200c guys= find car th350 tranny
also i have the info on BOP bellhousing bolt patterns and applications, including 350 Oldsmobile diesel th350 info(real heavy model of th350 made in both 6" and 9" tail versions from 78-85 and readily bolt to all BOP AND chevy engines also)
isnt there a sticky on this by now ?
if someone doesnt think this little bit of info will help anyone then please lemme know why and how not
thanks and happy th350 swapping

a little added info for ya
I realize this is a older post I’m dragging up from the past for that I’m apologize. I try in research the forums before I ask the same old question over and over. The original poster here is offering info on Trans swaps
Call me a little slow here but I could use a little more info on a swap to help me make a decision
I’m taking a 700r out of my 85 Camaro and wanting to go with 1st choice would be the th350 then the TH400 if the 350 is not available.. The car will be a street/strip car so linkage passing gear will be no problem. In keeping with the original driveshaft he suggested a truck trans now my question is what years should I start looking under? I have cut and made my own dirt track shafts in the past but for this project balance will play a major factor.
Tom
so im doing a 700r4 to a th350 sawp in my 89 camaro, what ur sayin is that ill need to find a 2wd truk trans with a 9" tail shaft and its the same length as the 700r4 and ill be able to use may existing drive shaft correct?
would you be able to tell me what else i would need to do to be able to do the swap painlessley? what parts i may need or what ill have to change?
Don't forget that anyone dropping the 700R4 for the TH350 will have to buy a torque arm converter kit. I purchased one on jeg's and it was $95.00. Also i was wondering is there any difference in the gear's between the 6" and 9" trans. I would have thought the one made for the trucks would have had lower gears?
