found a 82 Firebird

Ok I am sorry if this is posted in the wrong place, I have been offerd to buy an 82 Firebird. It is a stock V6 and has been repainted. My main question is I was told it has a munci four speed in it. I went to look at it the other night and took the VIN# down. I looked and belive the the case of the trany is alluminum but I could not get under the car enugh to see it well. My question is did they ever put the munci in with a V6 stock and how can I tell if it is a munci. The tranny is the reason I am going to buy the car as it has 200,0000 miles on it and the engine is blown. Any info you can give me would be a big help.

In 1982 there where two 4 speed transmissions used, a Borg-Warner for S/E’s and T/A’s with V8’s and a 4 speed made by Saginaw for all others. In July ‘82 they ran out of the Borg-Warner units and began putting Saginaw 4 speeds in all cars. To tell the difference: the reverse on the Borg-Warner tranny is to the left and forward while the Saginaw 4 speeds is to the left and back. If there is anything else in it, it’s aftermarket.

This should probably be in the history section, hope that helps.

OK thanks a lot for that info, it reverse in this is to the left and up so it is not the saginaw, it may be after market for I know it was a stock 6. So now I need to look into it more and find out.

Thanks
