I bought a second generation (1979) Firebird Trans Am, WS6. Its all original, as far as I know. The body is perfect, and the engine runs strong.

The Good:
79 was the last year of the 400, all were manual four speeds, and this was also the first year of the more aerodynamic nose piece. Only about 5000 were made.
Brand new tires, 255 rear, 245 front, road hugger brand. They have only been on there for about 2 months, so I would say 99% tread left. These things hook up REALLY well.
All original, and runs well!
T-tops!
Body is perfect!
I haven’t found any rust!
New alternator
New starter
New timing chain and gears
Recent tune up

The bad:
Drivers side door rattles, needs new rubber door stops, it seems to close too far, or something. Idk.
Most of the cardboard for the headliner is still there, so you could inexpensively replace it, or you can remove it all together.
The paint isn’t shiny, and is missing in a few places. I would call the car a 15 foot paint job.
Although the T-top seals are soft, the drivers side chrome T-top trim has be damaged, preventing it from latching down right, causing rather sever leaks on the drivers side only.
Carpet and front seats are in rough shape.
Drivers side door panel is missing, and passenger side is rough
No drivers side exterior door handle, I bought one, but I'm lacking linkage.
No radio
I'm not sure if it’s the oil pan, or the front seal, but it does leak oil.
The radiator core has a small hole, I believe its repairable.
The wheel seal on the passenger side (rear, obviously) is blown, so it leaks, badly….
The car has a small tranny problem; it will not downshift into second gear. I BELIEVE its just linkage, but it could also be something else. I just don’t know.
The exhaust leaks at the manifold, both sides, badly. One of the studs is broken, so fixing this will require pulling the heads, or, if you have an engine lift, you could pull the engine and tranny, and fix the oil leak, the exhaust leak, and the linkage all at once.

The straight up:
The car is totally restorable, but I don’t have the skill. When I bought it, I thought my father would help me, but he HATES it, and therefore refuses to help me. I just don’t have the know how to do it myself. The car also only gets 10mpg. I cant afford to maintain this car, I don’t know how, I'm in WAY over my head. I also cant seem to find parts for her affordably. This car just doesn’t exist in junk yards, my parents both want to see it leave. I WANT to keep it, keep working on it, but that isn’t an option.
The price:
Well, I want to replace it with a third gen that has been driven regularly. Must have T-tops and a manual tranny. Must be a V8, 305 is ok. Let me know anything you got
If your not trading, make me an offer....
(the car is wet in these photos, and it now has wider, white letter tires. I will add more photos later)
Re: 1979 Trans Am WS6, for sale or trade! (Washinton)
Even if your not interested, some feed back would be cool. what is a fair price? I know that the list of things that are wrong is REALLY long, but that is cuzz i was being honest...
Re: 1979 Trans Am WS6, for sale or trade! (Washinton)
My favorite year for the T/A was 79,and to be a 400 4spd if you were closer and we were to work something out I would be the happiest man alive. Now for reality.....that is quite a car you have there, you state that it runs well,t-tops,400,4spd,no rust,I understand that the bad list is a little long but hey it's not too bad for somebody wanting a beauty to fix up. As a buyer I would love to get it from you for as cheap as possible. As a seller I would sell it for no less than 3500(that would put it out of my price range) and only at that price if you really really really had to get rid of it. If it was mine I could never let it go. Good luck with whatever you do>
Re: 1979 Trans Am WS6, for sale or trade! (Washinton)
i agree that car may have a dull paint job but anyone interested in a 79 is expecting to repaint it. that thing from the pics looks to be really solid and i seen some bad ones lol. that is well worth 3500 or at the least 3k considering someone can take it repaint it for 2-3k and fix lil odds and ends and have a perfect car.
