As the title to this thread states, I am selling a fairly low mileage (for the year) Trans Am that is in real nice overall shape. This car is very original and everything works as it should. The A/C is cold, the power antenna [i]Still[i]works and even the power trunk mechanism is fully operational. The interior is in very nice shape, the paint quite original as the decals illustrate, the engine bay is relatively clean and unmolested and it drives pretty nice!
At the 48K mile mark, the owner before last installed a 5.7 (350cid) Longblock. Now this being an original 5.0 car, I do not know why the motor change occurred. One thing is for sure, it increased the performance greatly! The longblock is still in fact under it's original replacement warranty of 3 years or 100K until Mid Jan of 2008! I have this paperwork to substantiate the work done and all the receipts for the improvement work I did to the car as well.
I purchased the car about three months ago in the hopes of modifying it to my liking as far a minor performance upgrades were concerned. I always felt you need a good base in which to begin with when it comes to making a solid car, a great car! I was lucky to find such a nice, clean, untouched Hardtop 'bird.
Unfortunately, circumstance concerning My Family, have required Us to obtain as much capital resource as possible, hence why it is for sale. The 3rd Gen boards have been good to me as far as information is concerned, so I thought before I go to "evil bay" and the local papers, I would offer it up here first.
I would like to say that first, I DO NOT SELL JUNK when it comes to cars. At 37 years of age, I have owned many different types of cars and I have always believed that when it came time for me to sell one of them, that it would be in good working, driving order. Hopefully, someone else will take the car up to the next notch and make it that much better. To that end, I will list off some of the things that I have done to this T/A that have corrected issued that I felt were present when I originally got it.
I have replaced the following:
1.)Left rear brake caliper and new pads for the rear brakes
*both sides, rotors scuffed as they are quite new and appear to have been done recently by the previous owner)
2.) New Harmonic Balancer: This car was almost impossible to set timing on and I noticed that when the engine change must have been performed that they reused the balancer from the old motor. The rubber in that balancer was looking kind of worn and so I felt for the health of the motor and good timing accuracy, I would change it out. What a Difference this made!!
3.) New EGR. The old one was spent and coding a service light. That along with new intake gaskets, just kept improving the cars performance.
4.)New Idler arm, 1 tire and a good alignment. After inspecting the suspension, this was the one questionable item that I insisted on changing. Now all is well. The other three tires are in good shape.
5.) New Knock Sensor, full block coolant flush and a new 195 thermostat. Why take a chance; The coolant looked old, and the thermostat in there was a 180 degree unit which was incorrect. Runs nice and cool or should I say as cool as these 3rd gen cars can run.
6.)Full oil change and chassis lube.
The exhaust system is in good shape, so nothing was needed there. The car runs Real Strong and aside from an occasional rough idle when it first warms up, all is good.
Cosmetically, the interior is in real nice shape. If I were picky, I would say that the sun visors would need to be recovered as they are droopy looking and the center console has the typical trim "pulling away" at the side (see pics). Otherwise, all things work and the seats, carpet and headliner are in Mint Condition! Even the center console "night light" and the courtesy under dash lights all work! All gauges function properly. This was a fairly LOW OPTION T/A as it does not have power windows or power door locks.
As I briefly mentioned, it is a hardtop car. At one time it did have rear window louvres as you can see the marks where it lay on the glass. The only small issues with the exterior are in the left rear (driver side) quarter panel area near the tailights. It appears someone at one time or another there might have been a garage item or two that got in the way. It is nothing major and easily repaired. There is some paint checking on the right rear (passenger side) quater panel, but nothing to indicate ever a repaint or accident damage. The "Phoenix" on the Hood is an original decal and the aged look of this indicated further original status of the car.
IF you take into account all the photos, the description and the items that I did to the car to improve upon it, I would expect those who are interested to not be disappointed because I have layed it all out very descriptively. It might be a little long winded, but that is how I have successfully sold stuff in the past, so this car is no different. I think the person who buys this car eventually will be happy with what they get.
My asking price is $4,500 or best offer. I am located in Watertown, Connecticut and I would happy to show the car only to those who are most seriously interested in it. It is a car you have to appreciate in person to fully understand it's originality. Granted the longblock is now of 5.7 (350cid) status instead of the orignal 5.0 but this certainly doesn't hurt the car as it is great to drive!
I am currently awaiting a Connecticut State title that should be arriving within the next 15 days. When you register a car here in CT, as I did with this, you must wait btwn 60-90 days before a new title is issued to you. I have inquired as to the status of it and they replied with the "it will be to you within the next 15 days". They have been pretty accurate in the past, so I expect this to be true.
If you are a Connecticut resident, You can purchase this car immediately and as long as you fill out a certificate for a duplicate title at the CT DMV, and have it notorized at DMV, you will get the title instead of me. I will of course be happy to meet at any CT DMV to get this done, should you be an in-state buyer.
