1989 Pontiac Formula

1989 Pontiac Formula for Sale $5,000 - Feel free to make me an offer

San Jose CA, 95121
Email Premixyz@gmail.com

I bought the car in 1992 in Columbus OH and moved to CA in 1995.
It was a weekend / second car in OH and never saw snow (salt).
The car was a primary driver from the time I moved until I bought my motorcycle and truck in 1996 (about two years). It then became a third vehicle and saw little use after 1997. No rust. Never fixed any rust or removed any rusted parts.

64,500 miles
SLP Cat back exhaust

4 wheel disk

3:23 rear end – replaced the 3:08 about 10k miles ago, still solid, have old one to rebuild if you want

5spd/TBI/305
Corvette 11” clutch (I think the stock is 10”) – it holds very well.

New Alpine Stereo – Alpine amp for JBL 6X9 and Alpine plates – Sony Bridged amp for 10” base – custom box all built with quick disconnects

Koni Adjustable (Yellow)

New fiberglass spoiler – light weight and won’t crack like the stock ones.

Alarm with power door locks and hatch release

K&N filter

Under drive pulley set available but not installed (15 minutes)

No leaks

Re: 1989 Pontiac Formula

I would like to address some questions here from various emails. Not sure if all the emails are from this site or others but here it goes.

1) Pictures: Yes, I can send you more pictures or videos. Please be specific as what you would like to see and what quality (image size) you would like.
2) Trades: I am not interested in your motorcycle, your truck or your wife….ok, send a picture of your wife there may be exceptions to this rule. Generally speaking I am not interested in any trades. I have too many cars now and am only selling this to reduce the fleet.
3) My car:
a. Is it perfect? No, there are flaws on the paint and interior. It could be made perfect with very minimal work if you would like…however I am not interested in doing any more work on this car. Most people that see the car think it is “perfect” but I guess that I am just a bit more critical and consider “perfect” something nearly unobtainable.
b. Stereo – the stereo is custom built for this car. I have absolutely no other use for it, consider it a bonus item. The price of the car has nothing to do with the stereo. If you don’t want it I can pull it out before shipping the car but you will NOT have any sound when you get the car. I have the stock radio but I am sure it is not working because it has been in my dusty garage for 12 years.
c. What doesn’t work? Nothing doesn’t work, everything does work. Maybe I didn’t make that clear in my post, sorry about that.
d. I have the original owner’s manual but not the build sheet or window sticker.
e. The 305 has never had any modifications and yes the valve seals leak like sieves. That is how they were designed by GM I guess because this thing has smoked on start up since it was new. I have been putting in Duralube every 15 thousand miles (every third oil change) since the car had 20k miles. I am a strong believer in oil additives. I say this because I had a Z71 lose all its oil on a trip to Mexico which overheated the engine and caused it to shoot flames out of the intake (serious pre ignition from having red hot pistons) . I fixed the leak, added five quarts of oil and continued on my trip. I put another 50k miles on that motor and as far as I know it is still running strong today.
4) Shipping, delivery and meeting ½ way. Not my deal. I can pick you up at the airport if you want to fly out and drive it home. I can deliver it to whatever shipping location you find in the Bay Area. I think there is a rail head in Milpitas CA 95035 and I would be happy to drop it off there once you make all the arrangements. I will not meet you half way to anywhere. The last time I did this (with a motorcycle) the guy said that he would buy it but then started to negotiate payment terms and apparently thought I was GMAC financing. Ended up making me ride my motorcycle 2 hours and my wife drive her car two hours then didn’t have any money. Payment terms are simple, pay me then you can have the car and we will all be happy (mostly my wife).

Have a great day!

Re: 1989 Pontiac Formula

I have had some people ask me about rust and to see the chassis. I have a few pictures but here is a rather general one.

Send me some offers....I need to sell this car to make space for my new project.

Sounds like a pretty good deal for a solid, low mile Formula.

T56 swappers, this is your car.

I've looked at this Formula and it's in really nice shape. If I only had more garage space!

Re: 1989 Pontiac Formula

I just bought a set of Cross Laced wheels from Paul (Premix). Paul was very honest of the discription of the wheels, fair with pricing, shipping, and prompt with his communication. He packed the wheels in sturdy boxes, and put considerable thought into preventing damage during shipping. This dude is on the up and up. I buy a lot of stuff off of people on e-bay, and am used to sellers making items sound better then they are. Paul is the exception. I would not hesitate to buy an item from him again. Thanks Paul. Who ever gets your Formula is going to get a deal!. Good luck on your next project!

Re: 1989 Pontiac Formula - New Price!

Thanks for posting the pic of the undercarriage from the rear. Can't see all the way to the front so I have a question: is that a dual-cat set up? It almost looks like it splits from this angle but cannot quite tell for sure. If you still have this car let me know. I am thinking about it. I will say right now that I have one big hangup; this would be my 4th car in a row that is white (that includes an '89 GTA I had up until a year ago). I know it's tacky - but I am kind of tired of white cars. But this appears to be a pretty good formula. I would prefer a TPI - but have the resources to convert it. Like I said, I am interested if you still have it. I would have to fly in.

Re: 1989 Pontiac Formula - New Price!

I still have it. Single Cat - single in dual out exhaust (SLP Cat Back).
I know how you feel about the white, at one time I had a 92 Z71 (white), this (kinda white) and a white Maxima- The next car we bought we told the sales person, we don't care what color it is as long as it is not white ;-).
I do think the the third Gens look great in white though. You can always add a couple blue stripes to liven it up. I really want someone on here (who will take care of it ) to buy this car - I have had a lot of interest from 16 to 21 year old guys in the area that just want to buy it and beat on it....luckily none of them have come up with the $$$ yet.

Yeah they do look good in white. I probably wouldn't add stripes - I personally prefer the monochromatic look of late 80's birds and I think their classic lines don't need any special effects.
Honestly, if I didn't have the hang up w/ the color, we probably would have already made a deal.
Just so you know - I'm 34, have had more than enough speeding tickets in my day, and am just trying to find the car I always wanted in high school - a 5.0 TPI , 5-spd, formula 'bird.
Anyway, I'll think about it for the next week or so. I'll pm ya; if I don't, please feel free to pm me as work is running me into the ground these days so I may flake on getting back to ya. Thanks for the quick response too.
