1992 Trans Am GTA

Check sig for details. As of right now it needs new leather (torn sidebolsters), windshield (has a crack from a rock), the aero wing is cracked from a kid who sat on it and left shoe prints in the dust on my bumper!, and there is a dent on the passenger door from me side-swiping a post moving when I had my window filled with boxes (left white paint and tore off the side molding).

I'll post updated pics soon.

Registration is currently on non-op in CA. Car runs perfect now and will pass smog and inspection in CA.

I'm asking $6,500 with the SLP package parts.

I don't really need the $$$ that bad but I just don't have time to drive it, it just sits under a cover in my garage because of gas prices and I hate to see it go to waste. I'm going to update this thread with all of the GTA related stuff I'm also selling with it. I'm getting rid of everything 3rd gen

Re: 1992 Trans Am GTA

You have a pretty rare/cool car.

Very odd some one would forgo the 350--get a credit for the 305 and then jack the price up with the SLP stuff!

I love that colour. Whats the mileage?

Dude, have you seen the pics in my sig? It looks like 50K and has been kept in perfect running condition except for what I mentioned in my ad. EVERY single sensor and everything has been replaced pro-activaely before going out with genuine GM parts over the 8 years I've owned it. Heck, it's probably better than a car with 50K that hasn't been touched, lol!

Miles mean nothing on these cars unless it's less than 10,000 from a collector and investment point of view. Any thirdgen with more than that, just drive it.

Alex, what are your going to do with your website? will it still be active. Do you still have a firehawk?

Question, did the car get stolen, the key assy looks jacked. Good luck with the sale...

I honestly don't know about the site yet. I don't want it to just go away but I'd like it to go to fellow enthusiast that will continue and improove it. I'm not looking for much, just the value of the domain name and the money I've put into the owned license of VB. I'd be more than willing to hold someone by the hand for awhile during a transition.

The 'Hawk is long gone

It's never been stolen, all of the key assemblies are in perfect order. The "GM Trim Black" paint has worn off of them giving them a metal appearance, perhaps that's what you see?

Re: 1992 Trans Am GTA

Well I've decided that I'm not lowering it but maybe 1 more time and if it doesn't sell by the end of October I'm going to fix the door, replace the winshield, the spoiler, repaint all of the T-Top & hatch trim, repaint the nose, smog and register it. Then when I get my taxes I'll replace all of my leather from CarMotorSports and throw some new tires and shocks on and call it good, lol. I already fixed the transmission a couple months ago.

I guess I'm stuck with it, lol

I really think this is the best course of action. Keep it and enjoy it...maybe thirdgen values will appreciate and you'll then be able to get your original asking price.

Alex,
Did you try advertising on other boards and listings? Just don't do eBay, so many cool cars and just crap on the bids. Good luck!

I just want a brand new looking white 350 auto 91 Formula and I will call it quits with that one.

Dark Jade Grey Metallic. It's a 25th anniversay 1992 only color. I think there were only 16 or so GTA's made in this color. I sent my original emblems off to be masters for the GM certified repros since I was the only owner in that color they could track down. I got a complete free set out of it

Alex,

Its been a long time since I've talked to you. Too long, in my opinion. Its easy for me to say, but do what you know you want to do and just sit on it until you are able to afford to keep it up. That is a sizeable garage in the background that would love to house your GTA until you can devote more time to maintaining it. If you get rid of it you know in your heart that it will always haunt you if you get rid of it.
On a separate note, I'll be moving to the Hanford area in February '09. I'd love to finally be able to meet you and discuss our GTAs. I've sure you wouldn't mind finally seeing mine.

Wow, been a long time as you said!

Yeah I've kinda decided to keep it and it's in the garage right now and I'm smoging and registering it this week as a matter of fact.

I used to drive to Lemoore all the time to visit a friend who was stationed there. I'd definantly love to meet up and talk GTA's!

Re: 1992 Trans Am GTA

Lemoore is where I'm going to be stationed next. Lucky me, I get four years of shore duty for me. I have to go to Florida for a few months for training first, but then I'll be up there in Lemoore when I'm done with that. We'll have to hook up some time after I get up there. That's a fact. Good move on keeping the GTA. It hasn't always been easy going for me and mine (wife would love for me to sale it), but I just can't do it. I would only hate myself for doing it and then spend all my time and money just trying to get back what I already have in my garage. I'll shoot you an e-mail when I get situated up there.

Re: 1992 Trans Am GTA

Just to recap, still asking $5,500:

Here is a list of what I have done of note to the GTA in just the past 3 weeks:

Tranny fluid filter and 5 gallon complete flush (GM filter and fluid)

2 back-2-back oil changes (200 miles in between) (Quaker State Full Synthetic 10w30, AC Delco PF-15 filters)

Spark plugs (GM, AC Delco)
Distributor Cap & Rotor (Borg-Warner; Gold contacts)
EGR Solenoid (GM, AC Delco)
EGR (GM, Rochester)
Misc. vacuum & Emission hoses (Kragen)
Sperentine Belt & Tensioner (GM)
Thermostat (Stant)
3-Wire Heated *Denso* Oxygen Sensor with correct GM connectors
MAP Sensor & connector (GM AC Delco)
Header Gaskets (SLP)
Fuel Filter (GM AC Delco)

Gaskets: (ALL Fel-Pro)

Throttle body
Plenum
Runners
Manifold
EGR
Thermostat

Cleaned and oiled K&N
Reset timing after pulling distributor to stock
Checked and adjusted fuel pressure to stock
Tested and cleaned my IAT, IAC, TPS, & Coolant temp sensors
Had the fuel injectors tested and cleaned
Re-tuned with TunerPro RT

I pulled the top-end off to clean all of the EGR passages and to be sure any dried hoses got replaced so everything ran as well as it possibly can. The car actually hasn't run this well in 4 years. It runs amazing.

Yesterday on the Freeway the AC compressor locked up while in use and ate the serpentine belt. I of course promptly pulled over and had a friend bring me a brand new sperentine belt. About 14 months ago I retro fitted my AC system from R12 to R134A and I actually expected this to happen about this time. Sucks too because the AC blew ICE cold.

I was planning on raising the price up a few hundred in light of all of the recent service items I have done but since the AC compressor needs to be replaced I will consider it a wash and the price of $5,500 still holds.

Here is a list of ALL the mods that have been done to the car:

Engine:
140mph/8,000rpm/80psi Instrument Cluster Upgrade (swapped in factory odo for correct milage)
MSD Superconductor 8.5mm Grey 90* plug wires
Crane FireBall E-Core Ignition Coil
TPiS Bored 52mm Throttle Body w/SLP AirFoil
SLP Cold Air Kit
SLP TPI Intake Runners

Re: 1992 Trans Am GTA

Your not going to get that much for the car. You would be lucky to get 4500 for that.

The heads have never been removed but the top end has been rebuilt and so has the tranny although the tranny could use a refresh. The compression numbers are perfect and I also have dyno charts. It actually runs better now than it ever has.
