Ok, so here is this short and sweet of it. I was working on an 87 TA as a fun project car, but ended up totaling my daily driver one night on the way to work. I live in Zachary, LA and drive 98 miles one way to New Orleans 3-4 days a week for work. When i totaled my honda, i started using the TA, but it's killing me in gas. So basically i am wondering if anyone as a little compact car they feel is an even trade. I can't out right sell the TA because then i would have nothing to drive to work, so trades only. I am will to consider just about anything that runs decent and is small, though i am a little iffy about fords and would prefer something with a stick shift.
So here is the rundown of the TA:
I bought it as a rolling chassis. It has a 5.0 tpi out of an 88 camaro, a WC t5 from a 91rs, posi trac rear end with aluminum disk brakes from an 89 formula, as well as the interior from the 89 formula. the car has the early 80's body kit with the functional turbo hood, though the part that bolts up under the hood to connect to a carb is long gone. my dash has the 140pmh speedo in it as well.
I have driven the car approx. 6000 miles since getting it on the road.
What i have replaced:
80% of the brake system
-new front calipers/ hoses
- pads on all 4 wheels
-master cylinder and booster
-i honesty can't remember if i did the rotors or not, but i think i only did the front.
stock dual fans
computer chip to ignore emmisions
new clutch
new MAP sensor
new IAC
new radiator
new struts for the rear hatch
new stearing gear box
new rear shocks
new ac condensor (btw, the ac/heat works, but needs a new blower)
Snowflake rims from a second gen, tires have about 80% tread left.
Now for the bad... the car needs:
front struts
the steering system should be replace (eccept for box and pump)
paint job
t-top seals
rust issues in some places. I was going to fix with fiber glass
car leaks bad in the rain
no headliner
i installed a rear hatch motor out of the 89 formy, but it needs some work
hatch needs to be aligned
this car was in an accedent or two and was not fix properly. ther is an issue with the front right wheel, it rubs the frame in a hard turn.
I modified an airdam from a 4th gen to fit this car. the dual fan setup stopped working on there own, i installed a toggle switch for the time being.
Odometer and trip meter do not work neither does the oil pressure gauage. Speedo, tach, volts and temp guages work, but i am using a mechanical temp guage at the moment, and i bought a cheep mechanical oil gauge that i may install soon.
Well as you can see, i've done alot, and alot left to do. I think the car is worth about $1000 or so, and willing to trade for a car of similar value. i could easily get more if i part the car out, but then as i said, I wouldn't be able to get to work. Remember, i drive a 200 mile round trip, so i am looking for something somewhat reliable. At least for a year or two anyway. i hate to get rid of my TA, but such is life i guess, so if anyone in the baton rouge, New Orleans area would be intrested in finishing the project, using it for parts, or parting out for profit, send me a PM, or email me at wintersnyght@gmail.com .
Thanks,
Joshua
added note: I also have an extra hood and back glass from the 89 formula that you can have with the car. one of the mount holes in the hood will need to be drilled and tapped though, and the wrap around wing on the glass is shot. In addition i also have a set of 1.6 roller rocker, not name brand that you can have as well. And i forgot to mention that I had the heads cleaned and seals and valve guids replaced before i started driving it.
