1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am $2000

Hey everyone, I am selling my T/A. It is currently garaged in western MA near the Pittsfield area. It is an 1982 with about 95k on it. I am the 5th owner of it, I bought it when I graduated college in '07 for hopefully a motor swap and the hot rod treatment, but I recently purchased a Buick Regal and that has taken most of my time and interest away from the Trans Am. I would really like to sell it to someone on here, because I'd like to think someone on here would treat it well, and give it the love and attention it deserves. It has been a wonderful car to me for the past 6 years, needing minimal work other than the usual maintenance, brakes/oil changes/ spark plugs and so on. This car is definitely not mint, and I would be happy to sell it for cheap to the right person i believe will take care of it. I don't want to see this car go to waste.

Now about the car itself.

It has the crossfire engine that everyone loves so much, with about 95k, but I have had no problems with it, other than sometimes it stalled on really hot days after a cold start and not letting it warm up a bit before I drove, but it was never an issue that left me stranded, and once I figured out it wanted to warm up a bit before I drove, it was fine.

The tranny is the 200C 3 speed, which someone before me put a shift kit in, so the 1-2 shift is noticeable. The only issue I've ever had with the trans, is that on really long drives, it would sometimes not shift back to first when coming to a stop at, say a toll booth, so I would manually shift down, and it would be fine until maybe another stop. I have driven quite a few times with it out to Syracuse and Maine and other places for car shows and I haven't had any issues that made it impossible to drive. Perhaps whoever installed the shift kit was cause for my stuck in gear issues.

The body is in good shape, minor spots of surface rust, but no rot. The lower parts of the doors are a bit on the rusty side, but no rot there either. I did manage to get a dent in the passenger side front fender in maybe '08, but I had the body work done, and bought new graphics to install, but the graphics didn't come in time while it was still in the shop, so the passenger side is without graphics, and i never put them on because I liked the look without the graphics, and had been planning on taking them off all the way around the car, but I do still have the graphics. I wasn't the most happy with the work that was done, it's hit or miss at the body shops near me, and of the 3 or 4 I've dealt with, I've heard both good and bad things, and I've personally ended up with not the best work. The only other real body issue is the alignment of the RF fender, it seems to stick out maybe an eighth of an inch past where it should be flush with the door. At least no wind noise. They were supposed to align the fender when I had the body work done, but they didn't. Needless to say, it could use a once over. I think that's everything on the paint and sheet metal, the underneath is very clean, floors and trunk are good. The drivers door definitely needs new hinges and bushings, started getting pretty bad before I took it off the road, the door does still shut all the way though. And my t-top seals leak, I have removed the headliner and there is no rot up there, and i did my best to not drive it in the rain, and if i was caught in the rain, I had a piece of thin plastic that I would shut in the doors to keep rain out. Didn't look the best, but it kept the rain out. I think that's it for the exterior.

The interior. The tops of the back seats are a bit faded from the sun, the lower section of the back of the front seats is missing its fabric covering, not sure where it went or when, but it's been missing since I've owned the vehicle. There are some tears in the lower left bolster of the drivers seat, but they are small. The power drivers seat works in all positions. The headliner I took out because the foam was disintegrating and the fabric was falling down, so I just took it out. Also, the sail panel speaker covers are kind of faded, too. The dash cracked on me this year, I put it on the road in late Feb to get it ready for the spring, and one day i noticed a crack in the dash, and boy was I extremely unhappy. The odometer trip reset button hasn't worked since I've owned it, but never bothered me because I wasn't worried about fuel mileage, which I'm pretty sure it gets about 15 mpg. There is sometimes an issue with the window motors, mostly the drivers side since that one is used the most, but every once in a while I had the same issue with the passenger window. The issue seems to be in the motor, sometimes the window won't go up or down, and I'll have to hit the door panel by the motor, and the window will work. I've put my meter on it when it doesn't work and it read really high resistance, I don't think it's ever read OL, but I believe the problem lies in the motor. It hasn't been enough of an issue for me to fix. The rear defroster is inop, as the leads from the arms are broken, and someone tinted the windows, and it got peeled off in some corners. Speaking of the tint, it's the worst. It's been my least favorite part of the car since I've owned it. I haven't removed it because I haven't gotten to my steam cleaner thing. The steering wheel itself is definitely old, and a little crumbled, but still all there. I think that's it on the interior.

The things it definitely needs: It will need new tires, I bought some cheap used ones off craigslist to throw on the factory wheels, and they should make it through at least one inspection, but the tires on the steel American Racing wheels are pretty much toast. It needs a bit of an alignment, it wasn't the worst, and I planned on upgrading to the Spohn coilovers up front and a tubular A-arm and K-member set up with a manual rack, so i left it alone. It also needs a steering box, I'm 99% sure that's whats bad. During the last few weeks it was on the road, it started leaking P/S fluid real bad, to the point I just took it off the road, because I had that Regal to drive. Also, the valve covers are leaking, I replaced them for about 3 years every time I took it out of storage, they just always leaked after a winter, and I just stopped replacing them, because I was pretty much ready to go ahead and swap my motor in, and then a few financial things came up, so I just let them leak. The e-brake also doesn't do anything, I've tried a few things to fix it, but I've had no luck. The one last thing I can think of that it needs, is a left rear wheel cylinder or axle seal, I haven't taken it apart to diagnose yet, but it's one or the other, or possibly both. I'm pretty sure that's it.

I hope I have covered everything, and if anyone is interested feel free to contact me. I have it for sale on craigslist, and I'm including the ad link because I don't have pictures on the computer I'm on, but there is some alright pics on the craigslist ad. I can get more pics at request. The price on craigslist is 2800, I'll sell it to someone I think will take care of it the right way for the right price, 2000 or best offer. I mostly need the garage space back, but I'm not in a huge hurry to sell, and I know I picked probably the worst time of year to try and sell, but it's been a busy few months, and I haven't been able to prepare the way I would have liked to.

Thanks for looking at my ad, sorry there's no pics here, I will try and upload them here this afternoon. Feel free to pepper me with questions concerns and have a nice day.

http://westernmass.craigslist.org/cto/4160682882.html This is the link to my ad on craigslist.

Hey guys, sorry for the delay, I've been pretty busy. Here's all the pics I have of the car. I'm gonna have to do it three at a time, I tried to start a CarDomain, but it's not letting me attach pictures. 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 00-100_5205_tn.jpg

That's all the pics I have, some might be doubles, because I lost track of the .jpg numbers. Some pictures look like they're spotted on the seats, I'm not sure why, they don't look like that in person. Hopefully I can sell this thing now that it is spring. Thanks for the interest guys. Any other questions, fell free to ask.
