1991 Pontiac Firebird

1991 Firebird Formula. *This is a rare car; 1 of about 1100 cars made in this year.*

This third gen F-body has the L98 350 V8 tune port (TPI) "corvette" engine, WS6 performance package with a 700R4 overdrive automatic transmission. 3.23 posi/limited slip rear end, 4 wheel disc brakes. All original. In very good condition! Runs and drives excellent! Has 180,000 miles. Very clean interior with no tears or cracks in the seats, dashboard, headliner, door panels. It is a highly optioned car so please see picture of RPO codes. It has power windows and power door locks along with tilt and cruise, oil cooler. Car has Kumho 245/50/ZR16 tires with good tread.
Car has an axillary transmission cooler, flowmaster exhaust system with chrome 3" tips, and factory dual catalytic converters. It also has a JVC CD stereo installed in the dash. Car does have SLIGHT damage to front driver fender and one small crack on the windshield so *PLEASE* see pictures. It is 23 year old factory paint so it does have some wear and a few spots where paint is chipping, but one of the cleanest Firebird/Camaro I have seen with this mileage and age $3800 CASH. Title in hand.

Re: 1991 Pontiac Firebird

Why is every TPI 350 a "corvette" motor? No, its just a 350. Oh, and all Formulas were WS6.

Well if you want to get technical then it's an engine 1st off. Motors are elec. Like starter motor, fan motor, grinder motor, drill motor..

Next it's a "corvette" engine cause the common non third gen'er has no clue what a 350 TPI is as the engine was only installed in the corvette and very few third gen F body cars. Say corvette 350 TPI and they are like ohhh ok the fuel injected engine with the big spider looking thing on top of it

And again not every one knows that the '91 formulas was all optioned as WS6, but most people do know what WS6 means...

So there you go.

Re: 1991 Pontiac Firebird

Wasn't getting technical on the difference between engine & motor. For a second I thought you were going to go all Bubba shrimp on me and name every motor.

So your answer to people incorrectly believing that we have "corvette" engines is to continue to perpetuate the misconception. Then you say "most people do know what WS6 means...". No, actually they don't. All they know is that it was the performance option made popular by the Ram Air 4th gens. That RPO has been around since the 70's and nobody cared about it. Using it as a selling point for a thirdgen is about as dumb as saying you have a "corvette" engine. Oh, and TPI 350's were in more than just Vettes and F-bodies.

Re: 1991 Pontiac Firebird

Ok... I'll play along. What other cars had a 350 TPI engine? Now I bet you will say early LT1 in the caprice, caddys, buick roadmaster.. Which to some point may be correct, but that is a gen II engine and very diff from the L98 gen I which was only installed in the camaros, firebirds, and corvettes.

My job aint to teach the less knowledgeable people so rather than trying to teach them in the diff between the two, just let them see what they already "know".

Case in point. Last weekend we had a yard sale, I had this '91 formula sitting off to the side. One guy that came started asking questions about it, asked what "motor" it had. I answered with "L98 350 tune port", he then said "hmm I don't think I have seen one of those, can I look under the hood. "sure, let me un lock the car and pop the hood". Got hood up and 1st thing out of his mouth was... "ohhhh thats one of those corvette efi motors, I tried one of those vettes out new back in '89"

Ok so he was not really the most knowledgeable car person, so do I waste my time trying to teach him that both of the TPI engines he knew about now was 350 cid and used in vette and F body but the vette had alum 58cc heads, etc etc and teach him the diff in motor and engine? NOPE not worth my time or effort because it would not have made a bit of diff to him at all, cause that was a "corvette motor" to him

Yes I know the WS6 goes back to the 70's (1978 IIRC). In fact I owned a blue 1978 WS6 trans am. I have the 15"x8" snowflake wheels from it on my 1988 camaro now.

Anybody that knew performance cars cared about the WS6 option then and now.

Also when placing an online searchable ad you want the ad to come up as often as possible so you add key words that may be searched for. Rather than listing 100 random words at bottom of ad, aint it better to add in the words that's true to the car in the listing of car and what some people may know items by

Re: 1991 Pontiac Firebird

Look dude, truce.

I get that on Craigslist you might throw out the "Vette" thing to help sell the car. But people come to this site looking for information about our cars because of the credibility built through years of dedicated efforts by numerous people on accurately documenting our cars. When younger people see the same information on TGO, they continue to pass it along. Nothing personal on you. It just frustrates me to see people keep incorrect information out there.

BTW, the interior of that car looks pretty good for its age. With a little attention on the exterior, that car should easily fetch more than what you are asking for it.

Re: 1991 Pontiac Firebird

Truce..

BTW. Not one single place on TGO have I used the term "corvette" engine. If you notice there is 2 TGO post on here for my car. One by me linking to my CL ad and another (this one) by an auto post system from collector car nation where I also have the car listed. The one by CCN has my whole CL ad copied and posted here.

I am with you on the fact of coming to the boards to help others and give correct info. I have been a member here since '02 with over 500 post. My "home" board is nastyz28.com though and been a member there for the same time and with over 6,000 post. I'm an engine builder by trade, drag race as a hobby, have owned 7 third gens, 2 second gens, been building cars since I was 14, drag racing since I was 15 etc, etc. I do my best to pass the skill I have onto others, help people with car info, builds, etc.

Thanks, yeah to be a stock un-restored 1991 driver it is in real good cond. To tell you the truth I really hate to sell it. I could do a little body/paint work on this car and have a perfect car, but I have other thing I need to tend to. My 1988 camaro needs new rear drag radials, need to finish paint and body on my V8 S10, need a 16' or 18' car trailer, etc.
