88 Trans Am GTA L98

The day I thought would never come finally has, I have decided to sell my GTA. This was the car that got me through college and I didn't think I'd ever let it go. However after graduating and buying new cars this one just ended up sitting behind my parents house since about 2002. I thought I was going to restore it back to its glory one day, but I just don't have the drive to do it anymore. And since I have my first baby on the way I definitely don't have the time for it. So here is the history:

My father bought the car for me in the summer of 1998 and it had 57k miles on it at the time. It had been repainted before we bought it, with the passenger fender being painted off of the car (glossy lip under the hood) so I assume it had minor damage. There is not structural or frame damage though. I drove it for a few years doing the basic mods everyone does: headers, exhaust, plenum porting, etc. Then in 2000 the original motor spun a rod bearing. Rather than rebuild, I dropped in a crate motor custom built by Scoggin-Dickey. It is a 2-bolt ZZ4 rotating assembly with Edelbrock 6085 heads and an LT4 Hot Cam with GMPP 1.6 roller rockers. The engine was put in with 100,679 miles and the car now has 139,5xx. So the engine has less than 40k miles on it. It was broken in with conventional oil and then switched to Mobil 1 at 1,000 miles. After I graduated college I ended up buying an 02 Formula and parked the GTA. Unfortunately the long time being parked took it's toll on the paint as it is completely shot. The interior is pretty good for it's age, but it's certainly not perfect. Both seat belt receivers by the console have broken plastic sleeves, there are a few minor burn spots on the seats & carpet (not cigarette, sloppy soldering work by me for stereo/remote start installations). The car has never been smoked in (at least since I've owned it), it does have a little musty smell from being closed up for so long though. The center console was also swapped out for a 4th gen unit (cup-holders!).

Earlier this year I finally decided to try and bring it back and swapped the severely cracked dash for another that is not cracked. I tried to realign the hatch decklid to the glass to fix the annoying factory misalignment and subsequently destroyed the rear glass. So I replaced it with a hatch from an 86 T/A. The original spoiler was rotten, so it was replaced with a Hawks fiberglass piece. I bought a pair of replacement top door sills and have installed the driver's side, but not the passenger side. I rebuilt the hatch motor so it works properly. I also just made sure everything was in running order and got it to pass a VA state inspection. The engine has never liked to idle right while cold with the Hot cam, but is fine once it warms up. I have done some tuning on the prom to get it to this point, but I'm not an expert tuner. Overall the car is in pretty good condition mechanically, it runs and drives well other than the idle issue and an exhaust leak between the passenger header and y-pipe (a fitment issue, no holes in anything). The steering wheel radio controls work, as do the pop-up headlights. The main problems are all cosmetic, which is outside of my skillset. The only rust on the entire car is under the battery tray from a leaky battery at some point in time. I have installed a vacuum assist pump and canister under the nose to make sure that the brakes always have sufficient vacuum. The passenger front rim has a dent in it, and most if not all have minor curb rash. The transmission has minor leaks from the tailshaft and one of the cooler lines.

I think I've covered the issues with the car (and written a short story apparently), but if you have any questions please ask. Asking $2800 OBO.

Scott
