My sorry 91 Firebird

Here's some pics of my Firebird as it is now. These pics are really kind to it's paint issues, but I highlighted a few problem areas. I didn't get any interior shots, but its pretty bad, the camel color hasn't held up too well over 167,000 miles. You also can't see the rot on the floor thats going to need to be addressed.

With its problems and the fact that its on a rebuilt title, any mods I do are for my own fun, as I know it'll never be worth much. This is my second project car, the first being an utter disaster. I'll post major changes as I make them.

ps: with a sharp eye you'll notice the duct tape on the front of the bumper, and there is significantly more on the underside holding it together.

Looks like a heck of a starting point. Mine car looked a lot the same when I got it (even down to the wheels!)

3 years later... and the things in my sig make up how it looks and drives today.

Have fun with it!

Here's an update, the fenders, front bumper and hood are off, as they are all getting replaced, as well as the doors and a few other pieces. Here's some pics of it torn apart:

Re: My sorry 91 Firebird

if the floorpans are rotted, why are you even bothering? You can find a low rust 3rd gen for cheaper than how much it will cost to fix the floorpans

good luck tho

First off, I got this car really cheap. It was a barn find that a guy just wanted to sell off for a little beer money. Second, this is the first car I've really gotten the opportunity to work on in any significant way, so I don't mind having to address several things. This is as much about learning as it is about restoring.

ok.

one thing tho, make sure you put the TA wing on there. ive never been a fan of the generic looking wings the put on the base models.

Along with the rest of the body parts I'm buying, a wrap around spoiler is on the way, as well as a formula style hood with the bird on it. So yes, I definitly agree

X 2!!!

Mine was in pretty bad shape when I got it too. To the point were it was extremely dangerous on the 45 mile drive home. When I got it home and jacked up the front the driver side tie rod fell out.

I don't think there's anything sorry about your bird. We all had to start somewhere.

Instead of the major $$$ for a wrap around spoiler I HIGHLY recommend getting a wing off of a 93-97 T/A and fitting to your car. I picked mine up for $100. You can get them cheaper than that if you look around.

Re: My sorry 91 Firebird

Well the wrap around spoiler is not too expensive at all for me actually, its coming as part of a larger package. I'm buying rear hatch, spoiler, doors, fenders, hood, front bumper and front ground fx all from the same person who is parting out their 'bird. The spoiler is part of the hatch that I'm buying, and its easiest/cheapest just to let it stay that way.

I should be doing a ton of work over the next few days putting on new panels and exterior parts, and the car should come out looking somewhat like a Formula/TA or something like that. I'll post progress pics in this thread as I go.

Re: My sorry 91 Firebird

Started work on the car this weekend. I've got the doors on, the fenders on (but not completly bolted down) and the new hood on. Everything looked great when I got it, but a few things got scratched when I brought them home. Despite my best efforts to keep everything covered and cushioned, the wind was horrible yesterday and the trailer bounced around like crazy.

Looks like a good project. How is the paint? It looks pretty good from the pictures.

Re: My sorry 91 Firebird

The paint on the new parts is great (except for the scratches during shipping). The paint on the original parts is fair, but there's alot of rust under the paint to deal with around the wheel wells.

Another thing I forgot to mention, is that i have seen that the front left part of this car has been involved in an accident at some point in time and been repaired. The repair looked fairly good, but the car is just ever so slighty tweaked that the gap at the door and around the headlight on that side are a little off. Probably not something that will ever show up in my pictures, just something i notice.
