Moroso SBC Centerbolt Wire Looms for an L98 w/ Hedmans.

Hows it going? Anyone install these type of wire looms on their L98 with headers: http://moroso.com/catalog/categorydi...?catcode=40009 (Small Block chevy centerbolt kit)?? I have 2 1/4 inch hedmans which are in the way of what look like 2 3/16" holes on each head. Heres a pic of the location of the holes with the header in the way and is somewhat similar to my setup except not as clean and shiny ; notice how the 2nd hole to the right is kinda blocked by the plate on the header??? thats how mine is! This particular pic is not of my engine and is only used as a reference (you can't see the 1st hole because the of the cable thats in the way) here it is:

My friend has a grinder so would it be best to have him cut just enough off the plate to allow room for the brackets? Anyone have any other installation reccomendations?? Thanks in advance I appreciate it!

L8R,
Phoenix

This question would probably be better in the Engine or Exhaust forums.

I've only seen the looms that attach to the valve cover center bolts, then hang over the side of the valve covers.

I'm not sure how much you need to trim off, but if it isn't much, I don't think there should be a big problem with trimming.

so wire looms are not considered detail/appearance (engine bay) mods?

Yeah I'd really like to get them on there. The driver's side doesn't seem much of a task but the passenger's side, now thats another story ! Anyone know what the tabs on the bottom of the brackets by the 3 holes might be used for?

Thanks again guys,

Phoenix

Phoenix
yes they are, but not in the "members rides" area

i have a set of the looms that bolt to the side of the head with those 2 1/4" holes, they are moroso but i cant find the part number. they may just be modified regular ones, the kind that bolts to the valve cover.

I see what you mean; mostly interior and body exterior, no engine. sorry for the confusion . A friend is currently in the process of installing these looms on the valve cover sitting right on the lip because I don't want to mess with the headers in any way. Theres stll plenty of hood clearance and I think will look just as good. We're using self tapping screws and hi-temp rtv silicone for this 'mod'. We got one side done only due to the weather so he'll come over tomorrow to finish the job and I'll post up a pic once we're done! I'm going to be running a set of universal moroso ultra 40 wires to compliment the looms lol ! Ok, can we move this to the exhaust section??

Thanks,

Ruben

Looking forward to the pics, as I also ordered the moroso looms and the holes in the heads that they are supposed to bolt on to are inaccessible even with the stock manifolds....

Even with the stock manifolds ?! I guess our options are very limited when it comes to wire looms for our engines ! As soon as the job is done I'll put up a pic.

Re: Moroso SBC Centerbolt Wire Looms for an L98 w/ Hedmans.

Ok so all we got done today was the installation of the looms on the passenger's side; taking off the valve cover took some time because he had to remove the black box ( dont know the name if it ) which has various hoses running to it in between the inner fender and the valve cover you can't miss it lol! Aanyway the damn monsoon season here kept me from installing the wires today so if all is well tomorrow, I'll wake up a bit earlier ( 12:45p.m. ) and finish it and take a snap shot to post up here.

Take it easy,

Phoenix

Re: Moroso SBC Centerbolt Wire Looms for an L98 w/ Hedmans.

Good news: Got the wires and looms on finally after a couple of days of lagging it... sorry! I'm going to post up a pic tomorrow but it doesn't look as nice due to all the plumbing and wiring thats on the passenger's side but it does a great job in keeping the wires from touching the header; looks neater too btw.

Bad news: The car's 'check engine' light won't come any more as well as the f/p isn't priming and no spark is present either. Time to do some research.

Sorry about the delay guys, I finally got a ahold of a camera. Here are the pics I told u I would post up:

Before:

After: ( Please excuse the disconnected hoses and messy wiring for now lol ! The passenger's side doesn't look as good due to all the hoses and wires cramped up in that area but it sure does keep them in their place )

Wow. Looks nice. I'm glad I ran mine under the headers, though. But yours look great.

Re: Moroso SBC Centerbolt Wire Looms for an L98 w/ Hedmans.

Thanks man. I too am a fan of running the wires under the headers, but I wanted to try something different this time. My very 1st set of universal wires which I ran under the headers the 1st time, got burnt b/c the mouse inside my head stopped running and I didn't think about the proper type of plug boot for my engine therefore I purchased the straight type causing burns and arcs like crazy down the road. My 2nd set I purchased with the correct 90 degree angle and some spectre wire seperators; everything was good until the mechanics at a local machine shop who did my engine rebuild recently, burnt the s**t out of them. This is my 3rd set and so far so good, with little modification of course . Thanks for looking guys and if you have any questions installation, ask away. Take it easy!

Phoenix
