Re: AS&M Big Tube runners - Thread only for the commited ....

1 more set shipped out today and that lucky person has been sent the tracking #. We've been hounding AS&M to finish up this order. At least we are seeing some progress now but it's very slow.

Thanks again to everyone for your patience.

But we haven't heard from you since your last post on 5/23/07.

Could you give Ben over @ AS &M a little nudge just to let him
know that we are still here.

I would hope that two weeks would be long enough to finish
the " the 1 set per week " he told us so long ago.

Not only that your last post in MAY
said something about him getting 2 sets ready for shipping.

Did Ben ever ship those 2 out???
Yes, those two previous sets were shipped out and arrived at their locations already. Another set was shipped out today as well. I've already sent AS&M numerous emails and just this past Friday, sent them another trying to get an update on when the remaining (4?) will be shipped. I'm awaiting their response.....

Shouldn't be too long though, we only have 4 more to go until we can bring this GP to an end.

As soon as AS&M gets back to me, I'll let you all know the update. Sorry for all the waiting guys. I had no idea it would take this long for everyone to receive their runners.
If I don't get a response back tomorrow, I'll have to phone them up.

Re: AS&M Big Tube runners - Thread only for the commited ....

We spoke to Ben @ ASM today. There are just 4 orders left to ship. Ben is hoping to have them finished up in two weeks (yes, I know their estimates suck). There actually would have only been 3 orders left but 1 set of runners was shipped to the wrong address and lost.

Hang in there, we are almost through this. Thanks for all your patience!

Re: AS&M Big Tube runners - Thread only for the commited ....

Update...

After I saw all the wait here for these runners, I called TPIS and was told they had them in stock... this was January 07... so I went through a dealer, ordered a big mouth base and runners (plus porting / polish) and then TPIS said "large tube runners are on back order now"....

So I wait... am lied to numerous times...last week they even yelled at me on the phone "YOUR NOT OUR CUSTOMER, HAD YOU ORDERED THROUGH US, THIS WOULD OF NEVER HAPPENED"...

Thanks Jim... I did order through an authorized dealer of theirs... After previously denying the fact, they finally admitted that AS&M makes their runners... screw those guys...

If you want LTR's, I guess get in line for AS&M with everyone else... AND DON'T GO TO TPIS!

I have a set of runners (AS&M/TPIS) what ever you guys want to call em. Both are the same.) in my possestion and were In the process of takiing tons of measuremensts and making Jigs to fab our own. (my buddy Doug and I) Prob gonna see about going with a little big biger Di. tube also.

I think the problem with any of the Big Co.'s out there now is they are more interested in the 4thgen market.

What would you charge for these runners?

How long of a turn around?

Will they be avaiable for all years?

bottom line how much and how big?

Yes for all years.

Doug just finished specing these out. and Will be pricing out manderal bends next week. So no prices will be mentioned until everything is hammered out.( I will say Im tryin to keep the price as close to this GP as possible.)

Size will be the same or Im gonna see how much room there is for improvment on Bigger I.D. runners.

Update...

We spoke to Ben and he indicated that an order "should" ship out tomorrow and some more next week. *Crossing fingers* We will notify the lucky recipient as soon as we get a tracking # from AS&M. No promises as we know they frequently have missed dates

Thanks for hanging in there everyone!

Since I have a 383 going in the Bird this may put my set on the market right away as I am still building the car. Regardless of the outcome, thanks for taking a shot at this.

AS & M probably was closed
the whole week for the
4th of July.

Before my Father-in-law retired
from Fruehauf that's what they did.

Don't worry they'll get back to
stalling our order next week.

They way I figure it we'll be lucky
to see our runners delivered in less
than a year.

Unbelievable.....

I was in on the original group purchase, and paid for mine on September 15th, 2006, if I remember right.

In the time since then, I have:

1. Got a refund and bought some SLP runners instead.
2. Ported and Siamesed them myself...along with an Edelbrock base and a plenum.
3. Swapped on the ported intake parts, along with a new set of heads, rocker arms, longtubes, and complete new exhaust.
4. Wiped a lobe on the stock cam on the dyno, and clogged a catalytic converter.
5. Swapped in a new camshaft, injectors, and gutted the converter.
6. Re-Dynoed the car
7. Drove it for a few months
8. Sold that car, and bought another one to toy around with....

Glad I didn't want to wait....

Good Luck guys...

Well hip, hip hurrah.

I'm one of the lucky ones too!

I got my tracking number from Fast Toys today.
ordered 9/25/06
shipped 7/10/07

What do you know it didn't take a whole year after all.

BUT

When I tried to track it on FEDEX.com/tracking
the number is not found.
Try again later....
Soooooo we'll see...Later.

Well...
I sent an e-mail to Fast Toys today.
Asking to double check the Fedex tracking number.

Because it still says my number is not found.

I remember how A S & M sent one shipment
to the wrong address & lost it
during this group purchase.

I'm hoping My order hasn't been "Lost" already.

I spoke too soon.... didn't receive an email but I got a delivery from fedex this morning

They look quite nice, I'll take some pics a bit later. Came with gaskets... but I was hoping for a new set of runner bolts too. Oh well, that prolly would have taken another year...

Thanks FastToys for all your help through this ordeal.

I guess I really did speak too soon.

Fasttoys....Did you guys send me the right tracking number? I live in Illinois and the runners were dropped off at the front door in Nebraska.

I thought it kinda strange that it was out for delivery in Iowa. I hate FedEx.

Re: AS&M Big Tube runners - Thread only for the commited ....

Yep
You must have got the wrong number.
They gave me the last 3 digits that were missing.
And 40 minutes later mine were delivered at my front door,
HERE IN NEBRASKA

I felt just like a kid on Christmas morning.

Too bad my cash flow has dried up.
It’ll take a lot longer now to get everything
I want for my overhaul.

I don't have a digital camera but they look
quite nice.
Since I haven't taken the factory runners off yet,
I was surprised as to how light they were.
At first I thought the box was empty.

I’d like to Thank Phil @ Fast Toys once again
for sticking with us & helpings so much for so long.

Thanks Phil

Looks like I am the last man standing, haha.

Any word Fast_Toys?

I guess it's only fair since I jumped into this 1/2 way through.

Can I get some confirmation that I am the one waiting for a set and when I might get 'em?

One order left to ship. Ben @ ASM said he hopes to have it ready in the next couple of weeks.

Re: AS&M Big Tube runners - Thread only for the commited ....

Is it just me or did I get a pair of crap runners? I had major issues with getting bolts to line up. I ended up cross-threading 2.
My gaskets didn't come with any plastic holding tabs nor did I get the bolts that the instructions said are included.
What a PITA. Nothing ever goes right for me.

I ended up buying Demon355's runners... and your right, what a PITA! On the right runner I had to finish taping a half tapped hole, fit it on five or six times before finally using a bar to pry and lift the runner to get the bolts started while fighting the gaskets with no plastic tabs (used a bit of RTV to hold them in place) The bottom bolts were nearly impossible to get to, so off came the valve cover.

After half an afternoon I got the drivers side one on only to find out now I cannot replace my valve cover because it is hitting the over-sized runners and my 1.6 roller rockers.

I can't wait to tackle the passenger side. Mabey I should put my SLP's back on...

Re: AS&M Big Tube runners - Thread only for the commited ....

I'm still wrestling with mine. One of my holes wasn't fully tapped either. Caused a surge that I was chasing down for 3 weeks.
I already have had to clearance the bottom of my plenum to fit my fuel pressure sensor and AFPR. Once I put these runners on, I had to clearance even more. I'm starting to get thin. What ever happened to "bolt-on".

Hay Viprklr & Brisk,

I'm no where near ready to install my runners yet.

What is the location of the holes that were not fully tapped?

Were you able to reuse the factory screws when installing
these?

Re: AS&M Big Tube runners - Thread only for the commited ....

The hole on mine that wasn't fully tapped was the inside one on the drivers side runner, the bolt that goes in from the middle of the intake by the distributor and screws out towards the drivers side head.

I have not closely inspected the other runner yet.

Same exact hole as mine.
I couldn't re-use the lower bolts. Too long. I ended up buying different ones since i'm running polished SS allen head bolts.

Re: AS&M Big Tube runners - Thread only for the commited ....

I'm still quite a long time away from installation of mine.

I didn't know the factory bolts would be too long.
Thanks.

I wish anyone else that has installed their runners would
post up about any installation problems so I might know what
to expect.

If you had no problems that would be good to know too.

I can't believe after waiting 10 months for these runners
to be delivered, that they would end up being a pain in the ***
piece of crap.

I'm happy with the flow but not the install.
What normally takes me about 30-45 minutes took me 3 hours to do.

Hay Viprklr & Brisk,

Thanks again for posting your install trouble shooting.

Think it would be worth getting a different set of
gaskets?

What intake manifold are you using?

Are all the other runner holes matching up?
You only had to finish tapping one on each side right?
You didn't have to redrill anything else I hope.

Any suggestion on where to get replacement
bolts for the ones that are too long?

Are you guys using the factory valve covers or
have you got after market?

You didn't have to dimple the new runners to
get the valve covers on did you?

Do you think it would make a difference on
who's 1.6 roller rockers were used?

I just pulled the clips out of my old gaskets and stuck them in the new ones

TPiS Bigmouth

Not for me. The front inner I ended up crossthreading. Had to fix that. 2 holes on top didn't line up well either. That may be due to even more clearancing that I still have to do.

Hardware store

I'm using Edelcrap tall VC's due to my 1.6 rr clearance

get the valve covers on did you?

No. But I did have to remove the convoluted tubing covering the wiring on the pass side.

Do you think it would make a difference on
who's 1.6 roller rockers were used?
Can't help you there. I bought 1.6 SS rr's and can't remember the brand.

I just thought I'd let everyone know,
that I emailed Ben Benavides @ AS&M

Ben@azspeed.com

and told him that I was part of the TGO group
purchase & that the 4 bolts & the little
plastic gasket pins were not sent with the runners.

He asked for my mailing address & sent them
right out to me in a couple of days.
