NEW OEM 9 bolt posi cones !!

I have found a source for 9 bolt posi cones in Australia, I am trying to get a realistic number of people who would want a pair, so I can work deal on a bulk buy. I can get a quantity discount, so please let me know many you want. These are NEW OEM cones.

Currently at 1 or 2 at a time the price will be approx $70-80 per cone (2 per rear end= Approx. $150). Plus shipping. Shipping in bulk would be very resonable vs. 2 at a time.

ALSO, I can get the GTO HP diff spring tuning spring kit. This replaces the stock springs with the current HP springs from the GTO, we can also get bulk pricing on these too. the go for around $75 per kit for 1 at a time.

My idea would be that I would buy them up front and then bring them over in one shipment and then send them and each person could then pay me back one at a time. Let me know if this sounds OK

Again we can get better pricing if we buy in bulk for both items
thanks
Steve

I want a set of cones too. But I'm in the UK. Player 88 is there any way we can sort it so you can send me a set to the UK? or can you pass on the details of the supplier in Australia if not.

Cheers.

I'm in need of a set of cones asap. I'd may be interested in a set of springs aswell.

question: even when installing a new set of cones, isn't a shim kit required? I'll need a shimming kit aswell.

Good question:

When new, the diffs came with no shims, only the springs provided preload. The shims are to make up for the maching of the old cones and wear of the case. With these NEW OEM cones, less shiming, if any, is required, it depends on much wear your case has. The HD spring kit should also help with that.

FYI - personnelly I have a set of shims that I got with my rebuild kit and they are actually the pinion shims for use on the pinion gear, between the inner bearing and gear. NOTE: The orginal pinion was shimmed between the inner pinion bearing race and the housing, not between the pinion bearing and gear. However, I will try and get some info for them also.

thanks
Steve

Not as of yet, But I am hoping we cna get the price down enough to cover he shipping. Currently if ordered 1 pair and a spring kit the price would be around $200-220 US + plus shipping.

If we could get it down to around that incuding shipping it would be good. I would like to see approx. $40 off per full set.

The more sets we buy the better the price will be.

As I started in an earlier posting, I was planning ordering all at once, I'll pay for the entire lot up front and ship it over in one package, and pay duty, taxes etc. Then once in country I would then devide them up and mail them out each person. I would let everone know when they are in give them a final priceand then they can either pay me back via Paypal or Money order etc.

The shipping, taxes, broakerage fee, and duty would add back about $20-40 per set up total. So it is worth while doing this way, otherwise the shipping on a small package that far would be $$$

Let me know if that sounds OK.
thanks
Steve

In that case, put me down for a pair of cones and the springs too. If I'm going to do it, might as well do the whole thing properly.

Now where was that topic for the Diff covers group buy

I would like to get the ordered placed the first of March. I expect delivery to me approx. 2-3 weeks later. I would then ship them out, I would ask for payment once I recieve them. Once I get a final number of cones and springs, I can get final pricing and shipping costs. The pricing will be based on the numers of units ordered, volume is the key to lower price, so pass the word! I still expect the price for cones and springs to be around $200 delivered. So if that is too much $$ please don't say you want a set and not pay for them when I ask for payment.

I will be ordering some extra sets for myself and to cover others who miss out.

I will request pricing and shipping based on numbers as of 1 March 07.

thanks

Updated count total for cones and springs

16 pairs of cones
11 spring kits

Just as an FYI- the spring kits are stiffer then the stock srpings and will add a littel extra preload the cones. this will help make up for some fo the wear in the carrier it's self.

You still may need to add some shims to the carrier to take up any slack and compensate for wear. The shims are the same as the pinion bearing shims fo rhte 9". I just order some extras from RATECH for $13.00. I also order solid pinions spacers and shims for $18, these eliminate the crush sleeve.

"B" or "P" Model GM Axle p/n 1104 $13.00
(64-71): Pinion Shims -
GM Axle

7.750" (9 bolt) GM Axle: P/N 4115 $18.00
Solid Pinion Bearing
Spacer with Shim Pack 9
bolt
www.ratechmfg.com

Ano affliation- no endoresments etc, etc. I just used them because It was very easy and convienent.

Make sure they are not Bottomed out. if they are they you either new ones or you need to machine them. If the carrier is too far worn, then you need machine the ned of the new ones so they don;t bottom. Each side of the carrier has little "windows" in them . If you insert the cone in the carrier you see if the cone bottoms out.
athey also can bottome out on the inside of the carrier. the cones woudl need maching then. The windows are near the carrier bearing on each end. They allow lube into the housing.
Note: new cones will make up for smoe of the wear of the carrier but not all.
New 9 bolt carriers are $485 US Plus shipping.

Yes, the springs tighten up the pre load.

They are inside the carrier in the diff. Pull the axles out, 4 bolts each end. remove the rear cover. Remove the 4 bolts and carrier bearing caps, the carrier will then come out. NOTE: there are shims on each end, do not mix them up!.

Then use the process in the tech bulletin section on re-shimming. You separate the halves, they are spring loaded, and remove the insides, replace the cones and re-assemble as per the rehimming procedure and then reinstall. No re-setting up the ring and pinion, you didn't disturb it. It you can rebulid an engine or swap heads, you can do this!

Also if you are either rebuilding your diff or swapping out gears here is great upgrade also, this replaces the crush sleeve with spacers. works much better.

Do you have an estimate of how much each person's order will cost?

Now that I have real numbers, I have sent off a request to get firm pricing. I would still think it will be about $200/person for cones and springs + shipping + duties.

Once in country, then it will be approx
$10/person to mail them out. They are faily heavy. but can fit in a cushioned envelope.

So maybe 260-270 total person, and I think that maybe on the high side, but I really won't know until I get a reply back hopfully by tomorrow.

thanks
Steve

You've got me down for cones. I'll definately take a set.

Add me a set of springs on too.

I'm actually on holiday in NJ at the moment, so might take me a while to respond to anything.

Cheers.

A little confused. How come some people have 1 spring set next to their name, and others just have springs? What exactly is the name of this company that you are buying these parts from?

With that many on order, I hope we can get a good deal.

Anyway, I'm still in.

Im definately very interested if you can come up with a final price for cones and springs.
----------
Im guessing that he is getting them from holden or the company that bought out borg warner can't remember the name now as they still make parts for these in australia. I tried getting some from them once and they had gearsets and axles also but i gave up after they proved very unco-operative
