It's an eprom emulator, used for tuning OBD1 cars. Instead of burning a chip every time you want to make a change this thing plugs into the computer and emulates a chip. You can even make tuning changes on the fly.
I wish I had got one right away but now im glad I waited for this new version.
the Ostrich will save you tons of time tuning. I've literally had to pull my chip out over 100 times to get my car tuned right without one
its also easier to learn tuning when you can make changes while the car is running
That's exactly why I'm getting one, easier to learn the small changes, and less time between changes. You can make one small change at a time in seconds, instead of minutes and immediatly see the results, instead of datalogging, shutting the vehicle off, interpreting the datalog, making the changes you think are going to work and then burning the chip, reinstalling it, and datalogging again. You can tune without shutting the vehicle off, or even stopping it, if you have someone else driving.

It will work on this yes?
i possibly might be in at that price. hold off for now though until i know for sure/

protocols? never had to think about that..
how hard it is depends on how much reading you do prior to attempting it

In the readme file. Apparently I need to hook up to the internet. I sent an email to Craig. Hopefully all i'll have to do is set this up on my desktop, download whatever I need, copy it to my travel drive, and move it to my laptop.

the driver for the ostrich and tunerpro are on the CD. you need to download the .ads and .xdf file for your ecm.
I don't speak computer geek so what else do you need to make this thing work. Besides a laptop. I mean how does this thing plug into my 165 ECM. Do I need a HDR1 memcal header, or a G1 memory adapter? Does it come with software or is that extra. I have read the DIY prom many times and it isn't clear. Also how does this thing differ from the prominator? Does it only hold one program and the prominator holds 8? So confusing for us regular guys.
