The GM part #14083710 is correct however they have either changed the number to a new one or discontinued the part. Go to www.gmpartsdirect.com and send them an e-mail. They usually save you plenty of money on GM parts, check them out.
Did all camaros and firebirds come with this insulation? None of my camaro's had it and I was wondering if it was part of a package or if there was an RPO for it.
The hood insulation only is there to aid in heating up the engine in cold weather and I assume to protect the paint on the hood from extreme temperatures. You could look in the list of RPO codes on the home page of thirdgen.org if it was an option, but I doubt something like that would be. Now the Camaro's you had, were they used or new? It's possible if they were used the previous owners just ripped it out.
you guys were right, the part # changed to 14099509 .... the only thing I really don´t understand is that gmpartsdirect want about $22 for it plus they add $50 !! for shipping .... I don´t understand why

Well all three of mine are used and I'm not ruling out about the previous owners taking it off. I was just wondering which car's got it and which ones didn't. Given its purpose, I would think carbed cars and TBI would definitely get it while TPI/MPFI cars would not. But if my car was originally equipped with it I'd like to put a new one on.

GMpartsdirect probably assumes it's shipped UPS oversize or something like that. That is a crazy price for it, go to your dealer and they will charge you more than the $45.86 list price most likely but it will be cheaper than with the $50 shipping. Sometimes you can add other parts and things to your shopping cart with GMpartsdirect and it would make that $50 go down but it seems like it won't with the hood insulation.
I am pretty sure all F-bodies got the hood insulation. The earlier cars, at least 89 and back got a fiberous type. My 91/92 had a smoother plastic, that did not attract so much dirt and dust. It was amazing what fell out of the insulation when I pulled it off my 89 hood. Luckily I thought to throw an old bed sheet across the engine bay before yanking it. YUK!
Bottom line, GM only carries the new style, smooth plastic one. I'm not sure what dedicated restoration experts are gonna do in the future.
